Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (21 Feb 2013)

Derek Nolan: I have a question on that correspondence. The commissioner was asked to provide updated key performance indicators for 2012 but he only had 2011. He has provided them but they are not very good. It is 77% for completed investigations or 46% in travel trade licensing. Can we ask him to explain why his key performance indicators do not hit 100% in each case?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (27 Feb 2013)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (27 Feb 2013)

Derek Nolan: This certainly is a very important issue for the petitioner, Ms Halpin, who as far as I can see from the petition, has put a lot of work into it. From what I can discern, she was seeking to have withdrawn a foreshore licence or to challenge the manner in which it was granted. I understand from the secretariat, which has worked on this petition, that the licence in question has been...

Health Service Executive (Governance) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (6 Mar 2013)

Derek Nolan: Previous contributions, including the passionate contribution from Deputy Penrose, highlight that HSE is a damaged brand lacking credibility in which people have little faith. I do not say the organisation's staff are branded with that because anybody I talk to who has dealt with the health services speak highly of the staff they deal with. However, the organisation's bureaucratic...

Disability Services: Motion [Private Members] (20 Mar 2013)

Derek Nolan: In common with Deputy Buttimer, I am delighted to have an opportunity to speak on this topic. It is one that is debated regularly in the House and rightly so, because it certainly is extremely important and has an impact on many people's lives. I revert a little to a point made by the Minister of State, which is that when Members talk about people with disabilities, they do so as though...
