Paudie Coffey: That is my point. That is a successful project which Ms Collins initiated.

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Health: Discussion (22 Oct 2019)

Paudie Coffey: That project has worked in some areas but is not available everywhere. Why are we not expanding the successful projects? That would be a start, even if it is just to send a message that we are trying to do something about this, rather than letting the thing roll on with the same budget and mortality rates every year. If that is not changing, we are doing something wrong.

Paudie Coffey: That is my point.

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Health: Discussion (22 Oct 2019)

Paudie Coffey: That is my point. There are silos in the system when the Estimates are being prepared for each Department. Mr. Walsh has to battle his corner. He is responsible for the Traveller community's health, as well as the national drugs strategy. There are pressures across the health system, as we all know. However, findings clearly show that mortality rates among this community are far higher...

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Health: Discussion (22 Oct 2019)

Paudie Coffey: I have a quick follow-up question on the action plan. Am I right to say it is the HSE's responsibility to produce that? Mr. Walsh has mentioned it and is frustrated himself that it has yet to appear. Is there any timeframe for when we will see this action plan? What progress has been made on the plan to date?

Seanad: HSE Capital Plan 2019: Statements (23 Oct 2019)

Paudie Coffey: I welcome the Minister to this important debate on the capital plan, the HSE and health services. I note his opening statement contained a commitment to continued capital investment in our capital health infrastructure. He mentioned an increase of over 165% in the next ten years on the previous ten years. That is a substantial commitment. We need to see the various projects progressing....

Seanad: Education (Student and Parent Charter) Bill 2019: Committee Stage (6 Nov 2019)

Paudie Coffey: This is an opportunity to contribute on this important legislation. I note the amendment brought forward by my colleague with reference to the ombudsman and the response of the Minister. The Bill seeks to establish a charter to improve and strengthen communication and co-operation between school stakeholders. That is critical and it is a very good move. I recognise the proposal made in...

All our guests were invited to the meeting in order that we could hear, from their experience on the...

Paudie Coffey: Is it working well in Mr. McMahon's experience?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development: Grant Aid to Rural Towns and Villages: Discussion (6 Nov 2019)

Paudie Coffey: Mr. McMahon mentioned funding for projects and the draw down of funding. I understand the bureaucracy and the frustration that can be experienced with the various stages involved. Before getting to that point, I note one of the representatives of Free Market said that sometimes there is inadequate communication and there is a need for a bigger and better strategies. We know that councils...
