Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Reclassification of Approved Housing Bodies: Discussion (8 Feb 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: That would be fine except they use council land and public land. It is not like they are coming up with land themselves. This could easily be done by local authorities. Most people would have viewed it as being a way to outsource this to smaller bodies in order to bypass the rule. Why else would they be in here pleading for a change of policy?

Third Interim Report from the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes: Statements (13 Feb 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: The third interim report was met with acute dissatisfaction by survivors and their families and supporters, people who had been failed by the State, the religious denominations and the entire establishment. Order of Business (20 Feb 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: The Cabinet met this morning to discuss the promised legislation relating to the referendum to repeal the eighth amendment. This has already been raised. The one thing the Taoiseach can control is the bringing of the Bill into the Dáil for debate. Why will that take two weeks from today? The Government has known about the Citizens' Assembly's recommendation since last April and it...

Topical Issue Debate: NAMA Portfolio (20 Feb 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: This is a really important issue in the Dublin West and Dublin 15 community. NAMA seems to be allowing whoever owns the land under its jurisdiction to ask the local GAA club to move off that land. To give the Minister of State a brief background on this particular area, it is one of the most diverse areas in the entire country. It was also one of the worst planned areas in the entire...
