- Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (19 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: I am alarmed by the pattern to which Deputy Wallace alluded. An unhealthy pattern is developing in this country. This morning, in words that are uncharacteristic for him, the Leader of the Opposition said that the system of justice in this country is rotten to the core. There is something sinister in the pattern that has developed in recent weeks. I am not referring solely to the "Prime...
- Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (19 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: I am finishing. What I mean is this, that there should be an independent body which chooses these persons so that, constitutionally, we no longer see political appointments, which is the basic core problem of what is happening in the justice system.

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: State Banking Sector (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: My question relates to the proposed timetable for the sale of the Government's stakes in Bank of Ireland and AIB. Will the Minister also indicate whether he has sought any external advice on the matter, whether he is keeping in touch with the public interest directors in regard to the proposed sale, and his plans for the proceeds?
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: State Banking Sector (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: I was prompted to ask this question after seeing the Minister being interviewed by Bloomberg in a snowy Dallas. It seemed to me that he was making a pitch to international investors in this interview, pointing out that AIB and Bank of Ireland are for sale and what an attractive proposition they are. The Minister indicated in his reply that Bank of Ireland shares are currently priced at 33...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: State Banking Sector (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: We are looking at March 2016, in other words. Is it not very dangerous to put the two pillar banks, as the Government calls them, out for sale to international predators at a time when we are encouraging, by our policy, a cartel situation? There is a real concern that although we have very few players in this market, the Government at least has some hold over the remaining banks which...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: State Banking Sector (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: I thank the Minister for his response. He has been to Brussels looking for recapitalisation of the banks. Is this sale subject to the subsequent recapitalisation, or will it be done regardless? In other words, if the Minister goes to Europe and says that these banks need recapitalisation badly, or at least need to be compensated under the ESM, will they be sold as recapitalised banks or...

Shane Ross: Do we know who we are asking in from Rehab?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: The Vice Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children, Deputy Conway, was looking for questions to be answered by the remuneration committee. Could we ask the remuneration committee to come in? It is difficult to know who they are. Could we also ask the former chief executive, who was there for 25 years?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: Yes, but it would have set the salary that is so controversial, so I would have thought they were the people who would have to answer the question. They could surely enlighten us on how this salary is worked out. There is a body of opinion that says the chief executive got this salary, she accepted it, and that is fine. How is it set? The remuneration committee sets it; is that not right?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: We should ask them how this was worked out.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: Will we ask the remuneration committee in?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: We will ask them to be here, then, and the former chief executive. We should invite the former chief executive, because he was there for 25 years, but we should also ask the chairman to come in.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (20 Feb 2014)
Shane Ross: I agree with Deputy Dowds. They should come in.
