Order of Business (4 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I will ask a question on the commitment given by the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment — with special responsibility for trade and commerce, Deputy Michael Ahern, to introduce a statutory restriction on the use of the term "accountant". Apparently people are misrepresenting themselves as accountants and causing damage. Will the relevant legislation be...

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: Did Deputy Ó Caoláin make these points in the committee?

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: It is entirely futile to raise a point on this matter, but for the life of me I cannot understand why we cannot resume before 24 April. We have been sitting until midnight quite frequently for the last three or four weeks. Some 24 Bills have been promised for this session, yet only 12 have been published. Why can we not resume on 17 April in the normal way? I know the Government has no...

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I can think of no reason why we cannot resume earlier, other than that the Taoiseach does not like to be in this House and escapes on the least pretext.

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: That is no way to refer to the Taoiseach.

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: The Tánaiste will be busy on 24 April.

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: Will the House have an opportunity, having regard to the serious matters inquired into by the MacEntee commission, to consider the report in the lifetime of this Dáil? Is the Tánaiste satisfied that all State agencies co-operated fully with Mr. MacEntee? Are some State agencies claiming legal privilege on some documents? It would be helpful if the Tánaiste were to provide this...

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I thank the Tánaiste for his remarks. I also raised the question of whether any State agencies were claiming legal privilege over certain documents.

Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: To return to the legislative schedule, some 25 Bills have been promised for this session. By my count, 12 have been published. In particular, I wish to ask about the Dublin transport authority Bill, which the Minister for Transport announced in November 2006 would be ready by Christmas. Naively, we on this side of the House took that to be Christmas 2006. Will that Bill see the light of...

Social Partnership Talks. (24 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: What assurances can the Taoiseach give employees who are concerned that the entire value of the pay increase provided for in the new agreement will be wiped out by the effect of inflation? What is the Taoiseach's assessment of the worryingly high level of inflation now? The Taoiseach told me before the break that there were 60 labour inspectors in place last year and that there would be 90...

Social Partnership Talks. (24 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: You have not even heard it yet, Sir.

Social Partnership Talks. (24 Apr 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I wanted to say to the Taoiseach that I wanted to withdraw the charge I made that he was telling me fibs. I must accept his word that it was inadvertent. Given that only 31 labour inspectors were in place before the break and the commitment is to have 90, how many are in post now and how many will be in post by the end of the year? I hope that has mollified the Ceann Comhairle.
