Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: I welcome the delegation from MFI. I acknowledge the Chairman's efforts to contact me over the weekend to give me time to discuss some of my concerns about the scheme. Ms Murray said that MFI is not a panacea, which I accept, but unfortunately MFI is being presented as the panacea for the inability of even good companies with solid business plans to get credit, which is a serious problem...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: Is Ms Murray still confident that MFI will lend €38 million in four years? MFI has an interesting range of products. Does it have targets per product?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: I have one brief question and a suggestion. In the earlier discussion with Deputy Lawlor, Ms Murray mentioned that some of Microfinance Ireland's approvals are already experiencing difficulties in repayment. What percentage of arrears is Microfinance Ireland already experiencing? Second, the information provided to the joint committee today has been excellent. I believe it would be worth...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: They have morning programmes on which, unlike in Dublin, they actually allow one to talk. It is an information exchange, as opposed to an exchange of opinion and I really believe that in those counties in which Microfinance Ireland may be below target, it should consider using the local radio stations. Members would be more than happy to facilitate introductions for the witnesses.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Health (Alteration of Criteria for Eligibility) (No. 2) Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (13 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: There is no doubt that this Bill will be passed, given the Government's majority. What should be noted about this debate is the complete lack of speakers on the Government side of the House over the course of the debate. They will press the buttons and support the Bill but there has been a paucity of speakers and most of the contributions have been from this side of the House. This is the...

Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Leader Programmes Funding (13 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: 117. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will consider a request from the South West Mayo Development Company for €1.4 million in extra funding to support projects in the county; if he will acknowledge that SWMDC took an 18% reduction in funding earlier this year, despite having to take on extra work owing to the reorganisation of MFG territory;...

Youth Employment: Motion [Private Members] (19 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: I also thank Deputies Mac Lochlainn and Crowe for submitting their motion this evening because it gives us an opportunity to reflect on this subject. I have consistently welcomed the youth guarantee and welcomed the promise of that guarantee. In fairness to Deputy John Lyons, he was the first person to debate that concept, and during meetings of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and...

Youth Employment: Motion [Private Members] (19 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: It was only towards the end of her contribution that she referred to the substance of the motion. I always find it ironic when she lectures us about responsible opposition having listened to her between 2007 and 2011. The Minister lecturing about responsible opposition is like Silvio Berlusconi lecturing about fidelity and compliance. When she was on this side of the House, responsible...
