Mary White: It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Minister, Deputy Frances Fitzgerald, on this auspicious occasion. As Minister for Justice and Equality she is leading the referendum. I am thrilled and honoured as an elected Member of Seanad Éireann and as a Christian to speak on the Bill. I commend the Minister on finally bringing the matter to the House. I look forward to voting "Yes" in...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Female Entrepreneurship, Women in Tech Industries, Skills Needs and Balanced Regional Development: (Resumed) Discussion (31 Mar 2015)
Mary White: I thank my colleagues. I knew Senator Quinn would be very impressed, particularly with the venture capitalist ladies, because of the field he is in now, considering all the opportunities he gave to people such as Ms Twomey and ourselves at Lir Chocolates. The cross-party document that we are producing aims to encourage more women entrepreneurs. Our mantra will be that we are not utilising...
- Seanad: Workplace Relations Bill 2014: Report and Final Stages (1 Apr 2015)
Mary White: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Workplace Relations Bill 2014: Report and Final Stages (1 Apr 2015)
Mary White: The bottom line of this Bill is that we want to deliver a world class workplace relations service designed around structures and processes that will have a positive impact on our competitiveness and create more employment. It would be remiss of me, however, not to support what Senator Cullinane has said about the Dunnes Stores industrial relations, which is appalling and is the opposite of...
- Seanad: Roads Bill 2014: Second Stage (16 Apr 2015)
Mary White: It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Minister here today and wish him continued and responsible success with his ministerial portfolio. I vividly remember when the Luas project was started where I live in Dundrum, and the then Minister, the late Séamus Brennan, in 2004 launched the Green Line and then the Red Line. It has been a tremendous success. My husband was the chairman of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Creative Economy: Discussion (21 Apr 2015)
Mary White: The delegates are most welcome, especially because they work on the periphery of the country. I am very impressed by their creative vision, with which I was not familiar. It reminds me of the Kilkenny Design Centre. When it started, it was very sophisticated and there was a Nordic influence on the artists involved. The problem is that the products are not expensive enough for a real...

- Seanad: Public Services and Procurement (Social Value) Bill 2015: Second Stage (22 Apr 2015)
Mary White: It gives me great pleasure to speak on the Public Services and Procurement (Social Value) Bill 2015 which will require public bodies to have regard to economic, social and environmental well-being in connection with public service contracts and related matters. This is a perfect example of an opportunity for the Government to put indigenous industry on a par with multinationals and foreign...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Enrolments (29 Apr 2015)
Mary White: The Minister of State is very welcome. I am speaking on behalf of the families of Glencullen, Kilternan, Stepaside, Sandyford and Ballyogan who have no secondary school in their area. There are a number of families comprising two and three generations but there is also a burgeoning population in the area. The fact that there is no secondary school in the area is a very serious deficit....
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Enrolments (29 Apr 2015)
Mary White: In his reply, the Minister of State said that: "consistent with the criteria for establishing all new schools, the patron of this school, which is Educate Together, will be expected to give priority access to children from these feeder areas in its enrolment policy for this school, including children from Glencullen." Does this clarify that children from Glencullen can to go this new school?
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Enrolments (29 Apr 2015)
Mary White: The reply said that "the new post-primary school for the Ballinteer-Stepaside school feeder area is opening in part in response to a need to provide 1,500 extra post-primary school places for children resident in the geographical area in question". That is the problem. I do not think that includes Glencullen.
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Enrolments (29 Apr 2015)
Mary White: I worked in the school section of the OPW and understand the issue about schools but the map does not make sense so we must address that for families concerned.
