Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to address a matter of urgent public concern, namely, the report of 30 kg. of separated plutonium going missing at Sellafield and the need to know when the Irish Government became aware of this information in the light of the court case taken by Government which led to a decision for the UK authorities to keep the Irish Government...

Order of Business. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: The Green Party also opposes the guillotining of the Social Welfare and Pensions Bill 2005 for the reasons mentioned by Deputy Ó Caoláin in that a number of my party members will not have an opportunity to speak on it. More importantly perhaps from a national point of view, the decision by Government to invest pension funds increasingly in the oil industry begs questions as to what the...

Order of Business. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I respect the Ceann Comhairle's decision in not allowing me to seek the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order 31, but perhaps the Tánaiste will say whether the Government had information about that missing separated plutonium. Regarding promised legislation, will the Dublin metro Bill now be changed to the Meath metro Bill in view of the Minister for Transport's state of flux...

Order of Business. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Since 1990 and the Costello reforms, Fianna Fáil has not introduced a charities regulation since it would affect their fundraising too much.

Order of Business. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I ask the Tánaiste whether she will accept that wager.

Swimming Pool Projects. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Question 5: To ask the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if submissions have been received from South Dublin County Council regarding a swimming pool in Lucan since a previous parliamentary question from this Deputy of November 2004; the funding stream which exists for new swimming pool applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5165/05]

Nuclear Safety. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Gabhaim buíochas don Cheann Comhairle as cead a thabhairt dom an cheist seo a ardú ar an Athló agus cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Oideachais agus Eolaíochta. Labharfaidh mé leis an Aire atá freagach as seo arís. This issue is of enormous concern not just to people in Ireland, but to anyone worldwide who is concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons and plutonium as a material....

Nuclear Safety. (17 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: They cannot find it.

Requests to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need to identify the Government's view of, and response to, the evidence and intelligence gathered in connection with the Garda recovery of large amounts of Northern Irish currency in Cork and other centres, and to determine why the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform stated two...

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: No. 10 dealing with the Diseases of Animals Act 1966 is insufficient because it does not address the ongoing crisis in Askeaton regarding animal health problems. It should do so and if it does not, then we are not doing the job we are elected to do. Will the Tánaiste and the committee take this into account? I support Deputy Kenny in seeking a debate which I requested under Standing Order...

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: There either is or is not IRA activity in the State and we are hearing different statements from the Government.

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Does the Tánaiste agree that the request being made is not just for a debate on Northern Ireland? We seek a clear Government position which I asked for under the request to adjourn the Dáil under Standing Order 31. This was not allowed and, while I respect the Ceann Comhairle's decision, the Tánaiste should accede to the request for clarity from the Government. Her colleague the Minister...

Trevor Sargent: The Minister was either right or wrong then or he is right or wrong now.

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: It is not just about——

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: It is a case of different rules for different parties.

Order of Business. (22 Feb 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I want to ask about promised legislation relating to the building control Bill. It was indicated that it would be published in early 2004 but it now appears it will be late 2005. Freedom of information indicates that it has more to do with not going ahead of the standards in the UK which allows for lower energy insulation than the energy performance of buildings directive requires.
