- Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2004: Report and Final Stages. (15 Dec 2004)
Timmy Dooley: I join Senator Paddy Burke in complimenting the Minister of State on the way he assisted Members and provided information about matters we raised. A number of issues created concerns for us and the Minister of State addressed them exceptionally well. There is no doubt that this Bill is an important addition to the range of legislation relating to road safety and road management that has come...
- Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2004: Report and Final Stages. (15 Dec 2004)
Timmy Dooley: Yes. I wish to ask the Minister of State to give due consideration to further amending this legislation as a result of matters raised during the debate or to introducing further legislation. I refer, in particular, to the issue of motorised vehicles. Everyone recognises that the definition of such vehicles provided in the legislation is far too broad. A child's motorised tractor which one...
- Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2004: Report and Final Stages. (15 Dec 2004)
Timmy Dooley: I would not dream of criticising the Bill, particularly in light of the work invested in it. I ask the Minister of State to give consideration to bringing forward a further Bill to deal with the issue of motorised vehicles, particularly those in people's homes which could be considered as toys. There must not be confusion and it should not be the case that a parent might be fined â¬3,000 for...

- Seanad: Parental Leave (Amendment) Bill 2004: Second Stage. (2 Feb 2005)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the Bill and the discussion that has taken place about it. From the Minister of State's perspective, this is about equality. Several Members have mentioned that responsibility for this area is spread across several Departments. As I understand it that is an issue pertaining to Europe, particularly the equality issue. The Minister of State has succeeded in bringing equality to the...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (3 Feb 2005)
Timmy Dooley: Like other Senators I would welcome a debate on the future of the health services. We should compliment the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Harney, on the speed with which she has grappled with some of the very serious issues in her new Department. We should not get hung up on labels or terms for the future as it is all about the delivery of service. In the case of...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (8 Feb 2005)
Timmy Dooley: I support calls for a debate on transport. There has been a great deal of debate about congestion on the M50 and the proposals to build an outer ring road. We must have a balanced debate about this matter, particularly in view of the fact that life exists outside Dublin and the M50. People in many parts of the country must endure congestion and delays on a daily basis and it would be...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (10 Feb 2005)
Timmy Dooley: I join Senators O'Toole and Ulick Burke in calling for a second debate on transport outside Dublin in particular. It is critically important in light of the Government policy on balanced regional development that we have a full discussion in this House on all aspects of transportation infrastructure outside the capital. Great deficiencies exist, particularly on the western rail corridor and...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (10 Feb 2005)
Timmy Dooley: The only way to address that at this stage is through a debate in this House. Regarding the removal of signage in counties Tipperary in Kerry, as noted by Senator Mansergh, we have a similar problem in County Clare where the sign at the Spancel Hill cross is regularly removed by tourists. I would like to see proposals for more permanent signage to prevent this sort of tourism vandalism.
