- Electricity Infrastructure: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I will just put this question. The chief executive said the additional cost was three times the cost of putting the cable overground, which is approximately €2 billion. However, what I have not been able to get from EirGrid is the figures on when that €2 billion is amortised over the life of a project like this, probably 40 or 50 years, and how that will impact on the unit of...
- Electricity Infrastructure: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: Deputy O'Dowd holds all the power.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Business of Joint Committee (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: While I accept it is difficult for the committee secretariat to manage this issue, the reason Deputy Michael Moynihan is absent is that communications questions are being taken in the Dáil. We should try, where possible, to take this into account.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I thank Mr. Slye and his officials for their presentation. The documentation sets out the impact of the magnetic fields and appears to suggest that one would be more affected by an electric blanket or razor. The chairman designate of EirGrid, Mr. O'Connor, appeared before the committee yesterday, at which time he stated that there was an impact on the lives of individuals in terms of loss...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: Could I be a bit more specific? That is €2 billion over the lifetime of the transmission network. How does EirGrid amortise the cost? Is it over 30, 40 or 50 years?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: If the witness cannot provide the figures today, could he revert to the committee and tell us what impact that would have on today's per-unit cost of electricity?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I am talking about the main projects of 220 kV and upwards rather than individual projects.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: Are any completed?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: Perhaps the witnesses will revert with a status report on the project?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Electricity Transmission Network: Discussion with EirGrid (4 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: That is okay.
- Social Welfare and Pensions (No. 2) Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: That is not so bad.
- Social Welfare and Pensions (No. 2) Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the opportunity to debate this issue. As Deputy Eoghan Murphy said, it must be debated much more. This legislation is certainly too little and certainly too late. It is too late for those who were part of a defined benefit scheme that closed in the past two years and impacted on deferred pensioners and those working who will find themselves with no pensions when they retire. For...
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Garda Operations (5 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: 170. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if his Department has requested the continuation of Operation Freeflow this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [52448/13]
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Public Transport Issues (5 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: 252. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the way his Department plans to improve the reliability and frequency of Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann services; the current statistics as to Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann punctuality; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [52449/13]
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Forthcoming General Affairs Council: Discussion with Minister of State at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (10 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the Minister of State and thank him for his very comprehensive presentation. As always, he sets out issues clearly and concisely and often detailed questions are not required. However, I have one or two questions. I ask the Minister of State to expand on the banking union. He rightly identified the heads of state and government Council decision of 29 June 2012 to break the link...
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Traffic (No. 2) Bill: Committee Stage (11 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I can appreciate what the Deputy is trying to do and at one level I can support it, but we need to ensure that young learner drivers are inculcated with a road safety culture. They need to be careful and mindful of speed limits. We have all broken speed limits on many occasions and have the penalty points to show for it but, notwithstanding that, if we are to change the way in which we do...
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Traffic (No. 2) Bill: Committee Stage (11 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: The fact that the penalty for a speeding offence has been increased from two to three points makes sense. We all know of examples in which a person is caught when going on a journey and then caught in the same location on the way back.
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Traffic (No. 2) Bill: Committee Stage (11 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: On balance, this seems sensible.
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Traffic (No. 2) Bill: Committee Stage (11 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: I move amendment No. 6: In page 16, between lines 18 and 19, to insert the following:"Amendment of section 106 of Principal Act 15. Section 106 of the Principal Act is amended—(a) in subsection (1), by inserting after paragraph (a) the following:"(aa) if injury has been caused to any person, or any person appears to require assistance, the driver of the vehicle shall offer...
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Traffic (No. 2) Bill: Committee Stage (11 Dec 2013)
Timmy Dooley: On a point of clarification, due to the reconfiguration of hospital services, because many of the smaller hospitals are no longer on call for emergency service, an advanced paramedic, usually in an emergency vehicle, will often attend an incident before the ambulance arrives to the scene of the emergency. Are they covered by this?
