Dermot Ahern: I am informed by the Garda authorities that 489,029 breath tests were carried out in 2007 under mandatory alcohol testing. Of the persons so tested, 5,211 were taken to a Garda station for evidential testing. Of those 3,610 were found to be over the legally permitted alcohol limit.
