Order of Business (7 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I gave the Taoiseach notice yesterday, and he might tell the House when he has the information, about the issue of whether we are likely to deal with the regulation and control of management companies prior to the general election. In respect of a different piece of legislation, newspaper reports today will cause the Taoiseach some surprise as much as they did on this side of the House....

Pat Rabbitte: There is a Broadcasting Bill before the House.

Order of Business (7 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: The Ceann Comhairle is absolutely correct; we cannot do so. However, the Taoiseach might be able to say that this matter will be dealt with because it is a blow to the fundraising of Trócaire. The abandonment of a prepared commercial is a blow to the organisation and, more important, to its development and goals.

Order of Business (7 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I would hope that the Broadcasting Bill would provide the opportunity to ensure that this unintended effect does not happen again.

Order of Business (7 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: Are the Taoiseach and I at cross-purposes? I am interested in that information but the specific point that interests most of my constituents is the regulation and control of management companies, which is a separate point from auctioneering and the practices that were revealed recently in that respect.

Pat Rabbitte: Will it be dealt with in this Bill?

Pat Rabbitte: Would that be open to Deputies who want to translate what has been transacted between the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the people of Dingle, or Daingean Uí Chúis? I was down there recently and none of the residents can figure out, in either language, what the Minister said to them.

Departmental Expenditure. (20 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: I wonder if that service will be available before the general election because there are many people in the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula trying to figure out what the Minister was saying to them. They are very concerned about the impending tourism season and the implications of the madness under way in the region.

Departmental Expenditure. (20 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: If the Taoiseach is less reliant on Independent Members of the House, as he said, why should he discriminate in favour of the small number of Independent Deputies who receive the service and against the rest of the Members of the House? Not many Deputies have an assistant principal officer available to them at a fairly serious level. When the Taoiseach says the service is only available...

Public Relations Contracts. (20 Mar 2007)

Pat Rabbitte: Deputy Kenny mentioned that coming up to the last general election the Minister of State with responsibility for children misused taxpayers' money to blatantly convey a political message. However, he was not the only one. Several Ministers promoted themselves and their party affiliations under the guise of imparting information to the public coming up to the last general election. Is the...
