Ciarán Cuffe: I asked the Minister to review the Garda code. I simply suggested that the section of the Garda code that specifies that a Garda cannot serve within ten miles of a relation, other than a spouse, is outdated and a reflection of a Victorian concept.

Ciarán Cuffe: I ask the Minister to allow gardaí to decide to live wherever they wish. If the Garda code is fully enforced — I do not doubt that it is being fully enforced — many gardaí must find it very difficult to live close to the communities which they serve.
