- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Standards of Service in Water Supply: Irish Water and CER (11 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: On that point, part of the reason they have not been spent in recent years is that they have been placed on the balance sheet against the general Government deficit. Will that continue to be an issue in respect of Irish Water or will it have control over these funds?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Standards of Service in Water Supply: Irish Water and CER (11 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: What did we get from Bord Gáis?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Standards of Service in Water Supply: Irish Water and CER (11 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: Mr. Barry is saying it was never realistic, that Irish Water was going to be hooked onto Bord Gáis and that there would be a minimal level of investment required to establish the new utility. He is saying it was the knowledge of Bord Gáis that was of benefit rather than its systems.
- Topical Issue Debate: Gaelcholáistí Provision (12 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: The all-Irish school model is well established in north Kildare, with the first primary school established in 1979. There are three all-Irish primary schools in the north-eastern part of the county, in Kilcock, Maynooth and Leixlip. In September this year they will have to refuse admission to just short of 200 pupils. They are very successful schools. Six classes of sixth class - rang a...
- Topical Issue Debate: Gaelcholáistí Provision (12 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: I sometimes wonder what is the first language. My children went to one of these schools in the 1980s and the early 1990s. Each time one was established, the parents were the drivers and it was fought all the way. The Aonad is seen as a rowing back or a watering down. It is not seen as an acceptable model. Hundreds of parents have united in terms of what they want and they do not want an...
- Recent Flooding: Statements (12 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: Anyone who has stood in a house that has been flooded will be aware that after the immediate crisis has been dealt with, householders are keen to ensure they do not have to go through such an experience for a second time. A more strategic focus is needed in that regard. I acknowledge that the work done after a flooding event has often been shown to have represented a good investment when...
- Recent Flooding: Statements (12 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: I think we will all say the same thing about the insurance companies.

To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs her views on whether the current geographic spend on youth services is adequate to provide the same level of service on a countrywide basis; if her attention has been drawn to particular examples where organisations which received funding under the youth service grant scheme concentrate their activities in particular areas of the country...

Catherine Murphy: 33. To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by Kildare Youth Services and other such services around the country at present due to their inability to fund qualified youth social workers; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that such roles often bring inherent knock-on benefits to the youth of a community,...

Catherine Murphy: 17. Catherine Murphy: 162. To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the measures that exist, either statutorily, through regulation or by internal code of conduct, or otherwise, to ensure that no individual member of the board of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland may find themselves subject to a conflict of interest, in particular if a member wishes to pursue an action for personal...
- An Coimisinéir Teanga a Cheapadh: Motion (18 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: I am very much a product of the Irish education system. I studied Irish in primary and secondary school and I even went to the Gaeltacht on about three occasions and, much to my regret, I still could not converse in Irish. I did make a contribution to the Irish language by virtue of the fact that I sent my children to an all-Irish school so they do not have the same disadvantage as me from...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Electricity Generation and Export: Discussion (18 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: One thing that is causing confusion in the public mind is the number of projects that are taking place at the same time and that a different approach is being taken to each one. There is a presumption that the same approach is being taken by each one and it is not helpful. I wish to direct some questions to Element Power. We have spoken about new planning guidelines which are coming on...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Electricity Generation and Export: Discussion (18 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: We have just spoken about the Danish model, where a much more inclusive approach was taken and in which communities had a stake in the project. Is that not an alternative?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Electricity Generation and Export: Discussion (18 Feb 2014)
Catherine Murphy: It seems to me that the way the industry goes about it almost creates a reaction within communities. The community gain is seen as an afterthought, rather than starting out with getting buy-in from the community, and so friction is created. Perhaps Mr. Cowhig can tell us about some of the community gain that he has agreed to at this stage.
