Denis O'Donovan: The Senator is expecting a favourable response.
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I am compelled again to raise the unfortunate issue of the McNulty debacle. From listening in the corridors last night and this morning, I am aware oil was poured on troubled waters at the Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting and its members seem happy there is no heave against the Taoiseach. While that may be the case, there are still many questions to be answered-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: Many questions for this House and the public still remain to be answered. Yesterday, I reiterated that the issue of the vacancy of the Seanad seat arose because of Deirdre Clune’s election to the European Parliament. The Seanad by-election concerns this, not the other House. I have demanded and will continue to demand that the Taoiseach comes before this House to tender a full...
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: Whatever way this pans out, these are questions that must be answered. I reiterate my demand that the Taoiseach, no one else, should come before this House to explain what has happened. I propose an amendment to the Order of Business that the Taoiseach comes to the House today to answer questions on this issue. A similar amendment was rejected on yesterday’s Order of Business but...

- Seanad: Freedom of Information Bill 2013: Report and Final Stages (2 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I presume it is a misprint on the amendment paper and should be Senator Paschal Mooney instead.
- Seanad: Freedom of Information Bill 2013: Report and Final Stages (2 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: Well spotted. I thank Senator Norris for enlightening the House. Before we commence, I wish to remind the House that Senators may speak only once on Report Stage, except the proposer of an amendment, who may reply to the discussion on that amendment. I also remind Members that on Report Stage each amendment must be seconded.

- Seanad: Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2014: Second Stage (7 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I welcome the Minister. Those of us on this side of the House will be wholeheartedly supporting the legislation, which is primarily designed to prevent Irish citizens from returning from foreign conflicts and sheltering here. The Bill is based on the EU Council framework decision agreed in 2008 when the previous Fianna Fáil-led Government was in power. We are calling on the current...
- Seanad: Order of Business (8 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I support Senator Daly's request to amend the Order of Business to take No. 11 on the undocumented Irish today. I rise primarily to express my concern at the decision by the Central Bank to introduce the 20% deposit rule. While it probably has some merit, its effect can be highlighted if I read an excerpt from an e-mail a lady sent me this morning. It shows that many people are concerned....
- Seanad: Order of Business (8 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I do not know who this lady is but she is in the Dublin area, which is all I will say. Her e-mail is typical of thousands of people in that situation.
- Seanad: Order of Business (8 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: We should have a debate on this issue. I ask that the Minister for Finance attends. I support what Senator Mary Louise O'Donnell said earlier, although, unfortunately, I missed some of it. We need an urgent debate because while this type of situation might have some effect in Dublin, in parts of the constituency I represent and in the west, houses are still being sold at less than the cost...
