- Seanad: Order of Business (18 Sep 2014)

- Seanad: Freedom of Information Bill 2013: Second Stage (18 Sep 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I wish to raise the lack of transparency in An Taisce. Is it covered by this new legislation? If so what exactly is covered? I do not have a problem with An Taisce as a body. It has a duty and an obligation to protect our heritage. I have had difficulties with its continual objection to one-off rural housing, where there was a dire need in parts of rural Ireland.
- Seanad: Freedom of Information Bill 2013: Second Stage (18 Sep 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I was involved in rural housing issues for 20 years as a councillor, for genuine people who wanted to live in their own locality. In some instances An Taisce got involved and deprived the community of a much-needed house for a family. In one instance, which was not a 100 miles from where I live, where a family with four members who had special needs, some of whom were adults, wanted a...
- Seanad: Freedom of Information Bill 2013: Second Stage (18 Sep 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I say this although it is not the issue today. Before Committee and Report Stages of this Bill, when I propose to table certain amendments, I would like to know to what extent An Taisce comes within the remit of this legislation. I asked my own party why it was not done in the previous legislation. I am looking for transparency. I do not want to get rid of An Taisce. I have had arguments...
- Seanad: Order of Business (30 Sep 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: The Leader promised me a year or two ago that we would have a debate in the Chamber on the persecution of Christians in certain parts of the planet. It is a critical issue. A debate in the House for a couple of hours would be worthy and it might highlight the appalling plight of Christians in certain parts of the world who are demonised, executed or forced to give up their religion. We...
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: I second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by my colleague, Senator MacSharry. This is the forum where the vacancy for the Seanad occurred, on the election of our former colleague, Deirdre Clune, to the European Parliament. The issues surrounding Mr. McNulty and the lack of transparency should be debated in this House. The people decided in the referendum held 12 months ago...

- Seanad: Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy (1 Oct 2014)
Denis O'Donovan: As Leas-Chathaoirleach, I would also like to be associated with the tributes to the late Dr. Edward Haughey, who was a Member of this House from December 1994 to 2002. As has already been said, he was appointed by two different taoisigh, the late Albert Reynolds and Bertie Ahern. I will not go over the salient, interesting and important points made by many of the speakers today on both...
