Verona Murphy: Yes.

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2020: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I may have confused matters. There are two matters. The Minister is addressing the diesel rebate scheme. I thought we were dealing with amendment No. 156 but it is amendment No. 139. I presented it incorrectly but the Minister is fully aware of what I am talking about. I will explain it to other members if necessary.

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2020: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: As the Minister knows, the floor was at €1 and it is now at €1.07 plus VAT. The current increase in carbon tax is not being taken account of for hauliers. I appreciate the Minister's comments about the grant. It is good to hear that and I am sure the hauliers will be very pleased. We must incentivise this as we have done with many parts of the agricultural sector. It is not...

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2020: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I thank the Minister. Everybody understands that the haulier will not get this increase in the carbon tax back and it will have to be passed to the consumer in the form of a double whammy. When haulier costs go up, everything on the shelf goes up. The Minister should bear that in mind. I hope this is not the final result.

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2020: Committee Stage (Resumed) (18 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I move amendment No. 156: In page 66, between lines 2 and 3, to insert the following: “PART 6 REPORTS55. The Minister shall, within 3 months of the passing of this Act, prepare and lay before the Oireachtas a report on the taxation measures (included accelerated capital allowances)which can be used to support a programme to secure an update in the national HGV fleet to Euro VI...

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2020: Committee Stage (Resumed) (18 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I thank the Minister for his reply. I understand now that this scheme already exists. I with to advise that gas vehicles are not particularly relevant to the Irish market. Some people did partake in the scheme but it has not really been successful. One will find that with the stakeholders involved they will seek more of an upgrade to a Euro 6 diesel as opposed to Euro 6 gas. Also, our...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: Page 75 of the programme for Government commits to: Examine options for a pension solution for carers the majority of whom are women, particularly those of incapacitated children in recognition of the enormous value of the work carried out by them. They do Trojan work and make great sacrifices. However, many carers cannot afford to set money aside for a pension fund. I welcome the fact...

Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science: Statements (19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I bring to the Minister's attention an issue that was raised by a constituent regarding delays in completing apprenticeships. The correspondence states that the constituent's electrician apprenticeship is supposed to be a four year programme, but there is such a waiting list to move on to the next phase that apprentices such as this person will spend more than five years doing the...

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: National Parks and Wildlife Service (19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: 173. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the NPWS for the past number of years has published the details of the released locations of hares on their website contrary to a press release issued by his Department on 12 November 2020; if his attention has been further drawn to the distress which the subsequent illegal...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Medicinal Products (19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: 339. To ask the Minister for Health if he will report on the availability in Ireland of a drug named Dupilumab which has been life-changing for many persons living with severe atopic eczema; when the drug is expected to be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [37741/20]

(19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I reiterate what the Chairman has said about Revenue's co-operation with the Department of Social Protection and how things worked for the employers and employees of the country. It is greatly appreciated. It made my job as a public representative easier that we had such ease of access and were able to get things clarified. I thank Mr. Cody for that and for coming in here this morning. ...

Central Fund Related Accounts - Revenue Account 2019
(19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: I see the breakdown here. I have some questions on this. Have the staff already been rotated on a 24-7 basis or is that Brexit preparation?

Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 9 – Office of the Revenue Commissioners
Central Fund Related Accounts - Revenue Account 2019
(19 Nov 2020)

Verona Murphy: It is and this is what concerns me if they have not been on 24-7. There were 130 people in Dublin Port and there are an extra 95 staff. If an extra shift has to be accommodated with 95 staff, it is not a huge increase. I know it is 73% but given what we expect from Brexit and what it will entail, it is not really a sufficient increase.
