- Seanad: Independent Monitoring Commission Bill 2003: Committee and Remaining Stages. (9 Dec 2003)
Mary White: One of the provisions in the Schedule which caught my eye was that the commission would be expected to publish reports as and when required and, in any event, at least every six months. I ask the Minister to ensure reports are published and brought before the Houses for us to discuss. I want to record also that mainland Britain does not accept Northern Ireland paper currency.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (10 Dec 2003)
Mary White: Will the Leader arrange as a matter of urgency in the new year for a debate with the Minister for Health and Children? A headline in yesterday's edition of The Times read "Teens face obesity and infertility" and another in today's edition of The Irish Times reads "An unhealthy time bomb ticking in our obese laps". Teenagers in both Ireland and England have a tendency to overeat and Ireland...

Mary White: Senator Ross said the Minister did a brilliant job managing the national finances and I agree. It took vision and courage to introduce the decentralisation programme.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (10 Dec 2003)
Mary White: It is a pity no one had the vision to introduce it 20 years ago because although we are one of the richest countries in Europe, we must reach out more to help those who are still in poverty.

- Seanad: Order of Business. (11 Dec 2003)
Mary White: Yesterday, I sat through the presentation by Mr. Justice Barron. It was a sad occasion. It highlighted the indifference of our political leaders at the time to the suffering caused and to responding to the biggest single bombing at any time during the 30 years' war in the North. There needs to be a Hutton style inquiry before which people such as former Prime Ministers, Foreign and Justice...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (11 Dec 2003)
Mary White: Having sat through the presentation all yesterday afternoon, it is important to convey the feeling that prevailed. Files are missing in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, which is a serious matter. Last Friday in Dublin Castle the Taoiseach, Deputy Ahern, said that one of the priorities of the Irish Presidency will be driving the EU initiative on the reform of the United...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (11 Dec 2003)
Mary White: Yes, on the reform of the United Nations. I draw Members' attention to this latest development by the current Administration, which does not reflect the views of all American people or politicians. It is very serious and we cannot be indifferent to it. We cannot let it pass over our heads as happened in regard to other events. The subject of the Barron report was left to somebody else to get...

- Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Jan 2004)
Mary White: I call for a debate on human rights during our EU Presidency. Amnesty International has asked Ireland to place emphasis on human rights during the course of the Presidency and I call for a debate on the matter in the House. Today, Mr. Chris Patten, the External Relations Commissioner is arriving in Bogota, Colombia and is demanding that the Colombian Government conform to the Human Rights...

Mary White: I welcome the Minister of State and his official and take this opportunity to formally thank him for the help he provided in having stamp duty on intellectual property, which was an issue of interest to me, removed in the budget. I am delighted by the measure as are all those involved in the research and development sector. The skill and expertise of the expert group on future skills needs in...
