- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Rights-Based Care for People with Disabilities: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: In fairness, many of my questions have been answered. One was to get all the representatives to discuss how their reviews highlight how the emergency placement process needs to be improved, and also to discuss the need for planning by the HSE and Tusla. We spoke about out-of-hours services. I have come across this issue a few times recently and therefore want to know the plans of all the...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Rights-Based Care for People with Disabilities: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: I ask the Cathaoirleach to ensure the committee makes a request in this regard. It is important. This is about moving forward in this regard and everyone working together to achieve the desired outcome. This would be welcome. While good strides have been made, we also have to examine the regulator aspect. This may be the way forward. I ask that the committee write to the Minister as well.

Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: Regarding the issues that came, the Minister of State with special responsibility for mental health, Deputy Mary Butler, is very much aware of them. I can only give her the height of praise in this regard. She is working with everyone as well. Family members are trying to get these issues sorted out. They are trying to get their children into the system as fast as possible.

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Road Projects (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: I have huge concerns about our minor rural roads in Carlow. I am working with a group of residents in Hacketstown, where there is one such minor road, a public road, that is absolutely unfit for purpose. I welcome the Minister's funding and I know her commitment, but we are now dealing with trees falling, we are dealing with huge climate change, we have flash flooding and we have drains...

Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: We are doing all the counties.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regeneration Projects (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: I agree that the town and village renewal scheme is excellent. I sent the Minister Carlow County Council's one last weekend. Six projects went in. I hope she will deliver on the six of them because we are talking about rural areas. Like the previous speakers, I have my list. I gave her the six. I am afraid to single out any one in case one does not get funding. I am looking for the six...

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flexible Work Practices (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: Will the Minister consider reopening the connected hubs voucher scheme and make a statement on the matter?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flexible Work Practices (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: I firmly believe the voucher scheme for remote workers, and what I would have classed as the hot deskers across Ireland, was hugely important. I know this from talking to people. That is why I wanted to ask whether there was any chance it could be brought back. It presents an opportunity for rural Ireland in particular, and for Carlow where I always promote it. A hub like this gives a...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flexible Work Practices (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: As the Minister said, it is really good. It is even great for the climate because there is less traffic on the road and people are nearer to where they can work. I welcome this and the fact the hubs are doing so well and are being used. They are really positive for rural Ireland. Working with the Minister, I am always promoting broadband or different connections because it is important...

Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: No problem.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (14 Nov 2023)
Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: The senior alarm scheme is absolutely excellent. I do, though, have two concerns. One is that there is a need to undertake an awareness campaign. I am shocked at the number of older people who do not know about the scheme. I am glad the Minister of State said he has seen where it needs to be more accessible. Most of the older people I know have great faith in this alarm. It is like a...
