Given that there was no difference between the output targets based on the revised Estimates for 2016 when compared with the 2015 Estimates, can the Minister of State explain why there has been an increase of 2.7% in expenditure? Vote 29 - Communications, Climate Change and Natural Resources (Revised) (29 Jun 2016) Hildegarde Naughton: At yesterday's meeting we agreed to invite the Minister before the joint committee in early autumn prior to budget 2017 to allow the committee to consider expenditure proposals. The committee has asked the Department to provide specific information in the format requested by 31 July 2016. The clerk has corresponded with the Minister's officials on this with a view to obtaining that information.

Hildegarde Naughton: It is a simple fact that rural areas need State intervention if they are to provided with high speed broadband.
