Áine Brady: An independent chair has been appointed, namely, Dr. Des Bohan, an internationally respected expert, to facilitate and guide the development of the joint department of paediatric critical care. Other areas currently being examined to increase co-operation include renal services, genetics, endocrinology and dermatology services, among others.

Áine Brady: In the area of paediatric orthopaedics, it is important that services outside Dublin continue in such a way that unnecessary trips for children to Dublin are avoided.
