- Bank Bailout and EU-IMF Arrangement: Motion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: This motion calls for the bank bailout deal with the IMF-EU to be put to the people. It is as simple as that. The bailout that has been debated in this House over the past few days is in the form of a further capitalisation of the zombie banks. I refer to Deputy Nolan's contribution, in which he stated that it was not â¬24 billion of taxpayers' money that was going into the zombie banks....
- Bank Bailout and EU-IMF Arrangement: Motion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: I will just use 30 seconds more. The amendment tells me the Government knows it is wrong, does not have confidence in its actions and is afraid of its people. After only a month in office, it has relinquished its mandate and rejected the people who voted it in by taking on Fianna Fáil's clothes.

- Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (7 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, that the House consider yesterday's announcement of the opening of the agri-environment options scheme for 2011 and call for the scheme to be open to all farmers leaving REPS 3 this year and at similar levels of funding as the current scheme.
- Criminal Justice (Community Service) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2011: Second Stage (7 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: Like other speakers I welcome the Bill. It is a welcome move forward. Any legislation that will reduce the number of committals to prison will have a positive impact in communities and on the levels of recidivism within the criminal justice system. There has been an increase of more than 35% in committals to prison in 2009. The number of three-month committals has increased by 63% from...
- Agricultural Schemes (7 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: I refer to the announcement yesterday of the agri-environment options scheme, AEOS, scheme for 2011 and this is to be welcomed. However, there is great disappointment within the farming community at the cap placed on the expenditure and entry into the scheme. The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Deputy Simon Coveney, has announced the scheme for 8,000 applicants with an...

[7591/11]
- European Council: Statements (13 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: Will the Minister confirm, given the European stabilisation mechanism has been put on a sound legal footing, that the Irish contribution to that will be â¬11 billion and that we are legally obliged to do this? If that is the case, will that money be loaned to us by the ECB at an interest rate of 5.8%?

- Harbours and Piers (13 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: I wish the Minister and the Minister of State, Deputy McEntee, well in their portfolios. As regards the business and marketing plans, at this stage three strategies have been looking at the development of business at Killybegs Fishery Harbour Centre, at a cost of somewhere in the region of â¬200,000. Unfortunately, they have not been rolled out. It is vitally important that, if the centre...

- Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2011: Second Stage (14 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: The Bill provides for an increase in a range of levies and the introduction of a new levy on incineration. The plastic bag and landfill levies are to be increased. The increase in the levy on plastic bags, to 70 cent, is viewed by the Government as a means of using price to control the use of plastic bags. There is no doubt that the levy was effective when first introduced. It was a very...

- Commission of Inquiry into Banking Sector: Statements (20 Apr 2011)
Thomas Pringle: The report of the commission of investigation into the banking sector in Ireland appears not to lay any blame on any individuals or institutions for the collapse in the banking sector and the economy. That is not the case. The blame lies squarely on all the bodies involved in Irish banking - the Government, the Department of Finance, the Central Bank, the Financial Regulator and the actual...
