- Ireland's Recognition of the State of Palestine: Statements (28 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: I do have not much time, but there are brutal times and happy times in all of our lives. The happy time is today, when we can celebrate and welcome the recognition of Palestine. Some people will call it symbolic, but symbolism brings huge hope across the world. Where there is hope, there is solidarity and friendship from the people of Ireland. However, there are also brutal times. Those...
- Neutrality and the Triple Lock: Motion [Private Members] (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: We are living in very dangerous times, when the norms of international law, even in warfare, are being breached on a daily basis. We only have to look at what is taking place in Gaza. The pictures and images of what Israel is doing to human beings - children, women and men - are incomprehensible. In that context, Irish neutrality has always been sacred. It has been sacred from the...
- Neutrality and the Triple Lock: Motion [Private Members] (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: He took extra minutes.
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: In the past number of days, there have been reports in the media about people having adverse reactions to cannabis. This is quite concerning but where there is no regulation, someone will fill the gap and that is the black market. It is in everyone's interest in respect of harm reduction and regulation that there would be a different model for cannabis. In the absence of regulation, people...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Nursing Homes (28 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: 497. To ask the Minister for Health if he is aware of the proposed closure of a nursing home (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24111/24]
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: I welcome the witnesses. They do really good work through their services. How many centres are there in Dublin at this time?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: There are three in Dublin. There are 22 in the State. You could argue for double, if not triple, that number of centres in the State to cater for people who want to use their services.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: It seems extraordinary that the centres' funding model is reliant on charity. We all know that, to generate the €8 million necessary to cover the costs, an enormous amount of time must go into fundraising. An amazing amount of time goes into that. That time could be spent enriching services. It just seems extraordinary. I hope they can get the funding they need in the budget.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: I will ask a final question because I am running out of time. Do the centres provide end-of-life counselling when people are in the latter stages of their illness?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: That is equally important.
- Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: School Funding (30 May 2024)
Gino Kenny: 164. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if she is aware that as a result of her Department’s decision to cut funding for primary schools by €16 per pupil, at least one school (details supplied) has recently had to tell parents that essential workbooks will not be available for their children when they return in September 2024; if she intends to reverse without delay...
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (11 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: I come back to the issue of the Family Carers Ireland survey. It was a very important survey of respite care in Ireland. The survey shows this is arbitrary and inconsistent in respect of when families need this respite care. It is so important that all parties get respite care. Mention is also made of the means testing of carers. Again, I think this is quite arbitrary and needs major...
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (12 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: I wish to return to the report of the Low Pay Commission that recommended the abolition of all sub-minimum wage rates for all employees. I think we all agree that there is age discrimination in pay in this country. People who are 16 get 30% less in pay than those who are 18 and doing the same job, which is bizarre. This time last year, People Before Profit brought forward a Bill to address...
- Select Committee on Health: Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) (No. 2) Bill 2024: Committee Stage (12 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: I have never heard the term "farmerette" before.
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Nursing Homes (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: 1. To ask the Minister for Health if he is aware that a nursing home (details supplied) is facing closure; if he will instruct the HSE to take over operation of the home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25784/24]
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Nursing Homes (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: There has been a great deal of uncertainty with regard to the future of Lucan Lodge Nursing Home in the past couple of months. Hopefully, the Minister of State can shine a light on the future of the nursing home because the relatives, the staff and everybody involved want to know what is its future of going forward.
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Nursing Homes (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: I thank the Minister of State. Those who work in the home and the residents and their relatives are very concerned about its future. There has been ongoing awareness and protests with a view to keeping the facility open. I have a number of questions. Will the HSE consider taking over the facility on a full-time basis? If not, would other providers be interested in taking it over? The...
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Nursing Homes (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: That is relatively good news. If there is a scenario where none of the care providers is in a position to take over, it would be a disaster if facility had to close because it would mean the 50 residents would have to seek other accommodation. There is also the situation of the staff. People are very happy there but they are very worried about the long-term future of the nursing home. It...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Medical Aids and Appliances (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: I have mixed up my notes. Does Deputy Smith want to go ahead?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Healthcare Infrastructure Provision (13 Jun 2024)
Gino Kenny: 5. To ask the Minister for Health if he is aware that an organisation (details supplied) recently published the Irish national ICU audit annual report showing that an average 5.6 critical-care beds per 100,000 population were open in 2022, which is less than half the mean value of 12 for Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, countries; and if he will make a statement...
