- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Application of VAT to Food Supplements: Discussion (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: It is sometimes easier to get from Kilkenny to Dublin than it is to get from Roscommon to Dublin. The traffic after Palmerstown is chaotic. I apologise for arriving at the end of the meeting. I am very much supportive of this campaign on the basis that I know, from people who come to me, many of whom are elderly, that many of those health products are a considerable support. I know of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: A lot of the discussion before I had to leave for another meeting centred on fraudulent claims, which seems to be a massive issue. Fraudulent claims, however, involve not one person but two. What responsibility do the insurance companies have to the legal representative of a claimant when an allegedly fraudulent claim comes before them? I would welcome a response from each of the witnesses...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: Yes. In most cases, a claimant will have a legal representative. Where a claim is identified as fraudulent, do the insurance companies have any responsibility in regard to the legal representative in that case or is that a matter for the law?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: Mr. Farrell is saying they are not being held responsible.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: When an insurance company receives a case from a legal representative which appears to be odd or out of the ordinary, does the insurance company have a responsibility to immediately bring that matter to the attention of the Law Society?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: I would welcome a response on those issues from the other witnesses.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: Do all of the insurance companies represented today provide flood insurance?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: How difficult is that in the context of climate change? In my constituency, people who have been hit by flooding have made claims which, in fairness, have been paid but they are now finding it difficult to have their insurance renewed, even where there may have been works carried out by the local authority and so on.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Youth Mental Health: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: There are hardly any questions left to ask at this stage. Many of the questions I had lined up have been asked. I will pose them in any event and our guests can shorten their replies or indicate that they have already answered. First, I acknowledge the presence of Ms Kate Mitchell. She was in Roscommon at a seminar I ran and she was excellent. She was extremely impressive and had a good...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Youth Mental Health: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Oct 2019)
Eugene Murphy: It came at a time we had particularly bad issues with mental health in our county. It was disturbing. I am here to contribute in a positive way and I acknowledge that everybody is trying to improve things. It is such a critical area. We need to move as quickly as possible. A sum of €25 million might not now be expended on mental health. This should not be happening when we have...
