- Seanad: Parental Leave Bill 2013: Second Stage (10 Jul 2013)
Mary White: I am a person who very much wears my heart on my sleeve. I am transparent, probably too much so for the business we are in. I am overwhelmed by the support from everyone who spoke on the Bill today. This legislation is very much part of the point about allowing half of the talent of our country, the women of Ireland, to participate. We are not being competitive if we are not using the...
- Seanad: Parental Leave Bill 2013: Second Stage (10 Jul 2013)
Mary White: I accept what the Minister of State said about bringing forward a Bill to consolidate matters but it would be better to iron out the issues on this one and for it to go forward. That would be better for us all. I do not want to integrate it into the new family legislation, and although that would be right thing to do, this Bill should stand on its right to put a spotlight on our wanting...
- Seanad: Parental Leave Bill 2013: Second Stage (10 Jul 2013)
Mary White: The other point I want to make and I am using poetic licence here is that I want to thank the Minister of State very much for putting on the record here today that the Department officials should be allowed to help us. I had it on my radar that they would not help us if we were not in government or they were not allowed to do so. That is a very important point to make today.

- Seanad: Order of Business (11 Jul 2013)
Mary White: I wish to acknowledge the wonderful cross-party support we had in the Chamber last night. On behalf of Fianna Fáil I formally thank the Government for supporting the Parental Leave Bill 2013. Senators Bacik and van Turnhout lead from the front. I said on "Morning Ireland" this morning that Senator Conway was brilliant leading from the front.
- Seanad: Order of Business (11 Jul 2013)
Mary White: The same applies to Senator Cullinane from Sinn Féin. More of that is needed. I spent the past eight or nine months preparing the Bill. Senator Walsh spoke about getting in people to help the economy. The quickest way to help the economy is to get businesses to grow and to start more businesses. The Bill proposed by Fianna Fáil and developed by me is about sharing the 26 weeks...
- Seanad: Order of Business (11 Jul 2013)
Mary White: While I know we have had a very contentious morning here, I formally thank Senator Bacik for her support and Senator Hayden. We had a meeting on the margins last week to discuss the Bill - that is how women work together and pull it off.
- Seanad: Order of Business (11 Jul 2013)
Mary White: We need more women here.

- Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (15 Jul 2013)
Mary White: I am shocked to hear about the press release from the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Deputy Bruton. Did he read the press release before it was issued? It is like propaganda from Hitler.
