- Order of Business (4 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: When does the Government intend to publish the programme for Government? I understand from the Government Press Office when I made the inquiry this morning that it is intended to publish the programme officially in the coming days. Does the Tánaiste agree that this is most unacceptable? The Dáil will have risen for the summer recess and the opportunity for Members to question Ministers...
- Order of Business (4 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I would have liked it had the Government given the House a five-day viewing.
- Order of Business (4 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: What does Deputy Finian McGrath know about it? Sweet Fanny Adams.
- Labour Inspectorate. (4 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Question 15: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress he has made in increasing the labour inspectorate; the proposed timetable for subsequent increases to the labour inspectorate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18802/07]
- Written Answers — Public Holidays: Public Holidays (4 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Question 56: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Ireland has fewer public holidays than the other EU member states; if he plans to conduct a review of the amount of public holidays that workers are entitled to in this State in conjunction with the social partners. [18801/07]
- Order of Business (5 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I object to the application of the guillotine. As this is the last day before the summer recess, the Government is in a position to provide additional time to properly address the very important matters arising from the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (Amendment) Bill 2007. As other Deputies pointed out, legal and potential constitutional issues arise from the legislation. While the...
- Order of Business (5 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I wish also to support the proposition. While looking forward to the summer recess and the holiday opportunities as much as any Member of the House, there is every justification for an earlier return. We are on the last day of this sitting with no Government programme published. Despite what the Tánaiste said yesterday, the Government will hold the programme until we have all left and the...
- Order of Business (5 Jul 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Throughout the 29th Dáil the publication of the eligibility for health and personal social services Bill was promised. The Bill is designed to clarify and update the provisions relating to eligibility for health services. Will the Bill be published before the resumption in September? Given the Taoiseach's grossly insensitive remarks yesterday and the need to counteract the negative...
- Constitutional Amendments. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Question 3: To ask the Taoiseach if he proposes to initiate referenda to amend the Constitution during the course of the 30th Dáil; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16864/07]
- Constitutional Amendments. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Will the Taoiseach assure the House that whatever the outcome to the referendum on the EU constitutional treaty, the Government will abide by it and avoid the type of debacle that took place in regard to the Treaty of Nice II? Will the Government accept the judgment of the people on the various arguments? It is important to assuage the fears of many as to the Government's intentions on this...
- Constitutional Amendments. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: A simple statement would suffice in regard to the guarantee that we are still seeking in relation to the EU constitutional treaty.
- Constitutional Amendments. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: That is the best the Taoiseach can do; he is holding up his options.
- Communications Unit. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Question 6: To ask the Taoiseach the function of the communications unit in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18778/07]
- Communications Unit. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I had no issue with the Ceann Comhairle introducing Deputy Gilmore, on his first day as Leader, before me, but the pattern in the Chamber is that a Member is called always in the order in which the questions appear. I did not make an issue of it, but I do not want to see a precedent established.
- Communications Unit. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I appreciate that. I mean no disrespect to Deputy Gilmore or anybody else whom the Chair may call, but there is a precedent. It is bad enough, with the Taoiseach's efforts, coming in almost like the runt of the litter. I would appreciate the opportunity to get the chance to take questions in the order in which they were tabled.
- Communications Unit. (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: The Taoiseach has told us the communications unit furnishes news updates and media coverage. Does the unit also track the coverage of particular stories? Does it track and report on trends or on the attitudes and disposition of journalists or the media organs for which they work? Has it kept the Taoiseach informed of the general disposition towards him and his party of Independent News &...
- Requests to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to address the following urgent matters: the cuts now being imposed by the Health Service Executive in hospitals across the State, including hospitals in Sligo and Ennis; the disastrous policy of over-centralisation of hospital services which has led to the deaths of patients, especially in connection with the downgrading of Monaghan...
- Order of Business (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Those in the Public Gallery will be the first to state that the interest is not confined to their presence. The interest is universal and not confined to the mid-west. This is of importance to every citizen, not only in this State but on the island of Ireland. It cannot be about competing regional interests but about protecting and ensuring the provision of critical infrastructural needs....
- Confidence in Taoiseach: Motion (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: The motion put down by the Fine Gael Party states: "That Dáil Ãireann has no confidence in An Taoiseach, Deputy Bertie Ahern." We have no hesitation in supporting that motion as we have no confidence in this Taoiseach and the Government because of the disastrous policies pursued since 1997. The Government has squandered the unprecedented prosperity of the economy and failed to build a...
- Cancer Services: Motion (26 Sep 2007)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: The latest scandals in our crisis ridden health service and the failure of the Government to deliver radiotherapy show once and for all that the Taoiseach, Deputy Bertie Ahern, and the Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Harney, are unfit to govern. The ill-conceived, confused and mismanaged approach of the Government and the HSE, particularly in the provision of vital cancer treatment...
