I have a copy of emails between the Irish Asphalt Pavement Producers Association and Transport Infrastructure Ireland in respect of this. The association asked what was happening...
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (30 May 2024)
Martin Kenny: This could involve up to €40 million in funding. We need to get clarity about what is happening here. Everywhere we go in the country we hear people complain about the state of the roads and the dangers on the roads. We need to ensure funding is in place to provide adequate improvement works.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I thank both speakers for their opening statements. The direction of travel here is clear. We need to see more of the goods and products that are sold being repairable and options being put in place for people. A lot of goods, particularly electronic goods, are imported from outside of the European Union. Some are CE certified while some are not. How will that play into all of this?...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: In that case, the distributor would be obliged to ensure the product he or she is selling is repairable. That obligation follows back up the line and it is likely that unrepairable goods would be cut out of the chain.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: Does this have potential to increase the price of goods? The old Dunnes Stores slogan, stack them high and sell them cheap, has been around for a long time and we still see that in many cases. What we are talking about here is trying to move to a higher quality of product. That could pose problems for people, especially those on lower incomes or who have difficulties with their budget....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I will come back to my first point. How much of this is being done in other jurisdictions outside of the European Union such as America, south-east Asia and places like that? However, he told me that 80% of...

- Hospitality and Tourism Sector: Motion [Private Members] (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I thank the proposers of the motion for tabling it. The tourism and hospitality sectors are vital industries in many parts of the country where there is little else to employ people or provide them with opportunities. For a long time now, particularly during the Covid pandemic, the sector has faced a huge difficulty in trying to survive. Many of its members were very grateful for the...
- Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: From discussions I have had recently with childminders who mind children and provide a service in their own homes, while they accept the need for change and have no difficulty with it, there is a certain scepticism and difficulty with this Bill. They fear being overburdened with regulation. One person I spoke to asked whether visitors coming to their home would have to be vetted. Those...
