Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defective Building Materials (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: Will the Minister explain what are the issues the Department has with regard to the submission made in July? There was a meeting in recent days between the Department and the local authority. As he said, the issues are not insurmountable. Will the Minister provide clarity on this? It would be welcome. Once it is resubmitted, will he then be in a position to extend the scheme to County Clare?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: 18. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government his Department’s policy, in conjunction with Irish Water, on the taking in charge of developer-led sewage treatment plants; his views on the part such privately developed treatment plants can play in future county development plans to encourage development in small towns and villages in County Clare and throughout the...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I have been dealing with local councillors in County Clare who have come up with a proposal that I would like to be considered. This is whereby a developer could build a private sewerage treatment plant. These would be used for the further development of small towns and villages. It is a good proposal. The key issue is that Irish Water would have to take the unit in charge.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I thank the Minister of State for his reply. This is an issue in rural Ireland and in County Clare in particular. Some 52 settlements in small towns and villages in the county just do not have the infrastructure. If the infrastructure is not there, it is not possible to develop a village further. This is an innovative idea. If the Department can work in conjunction with others and came...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: To clarify then on the taking-in-charge process, if a system was built to a certain standard approved by the Department, surely Irish Water should be in a position to take over a plant such as that. Is that something that the Department will give consideration to? As I said, there are 52 settlements in County Clare alone, not to mention the rest of the country, which do not have these...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Sports Funding (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: 161. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if he will report on progress in relation to the 2021 sports capital programme; when an announcement will be made regarding the outcome of same; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [55207/21]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Sports Funding (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I acknowledge the work of the Minister and the Minister of State on this valuable funding stream for sports. The Minister of State has visited County Clare on several occasions, where he met and spoke with representatives of clubs and in that way heard from the grassroots about the importance of this funding stream. I agree with the Deputy that it is important that more money in this regard...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Sports Funding (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I thank the Minister of State for his answer. Is it safe to say, though, that allocations of funding will be made by the end of the year? Can he envisage a situation where this process might continue into next year? If it were to happen, could he find himself in a situation where he might be using money from next year’s budget along with this year’s budget to make a more...

Written Answers — Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Sports Funding (11 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: 182. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht when the next Sports Capital Programme will be launched; if it will include a large-scale sports infrastructure aspect; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [55208/21]

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Vacant Properties (16 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: It is very clear we need a more comprehensive strategy to assist the redevelopment of derelict and vacant properties. If properly implemented, such a strategy could play an important role in helping to address the housing crisis while also helping to rejuvenate our towns and villages. A number of welcome measures have been introduced over the past number of years, such as a repair and...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Vacant Properties (16 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: The number of vacant and derelict buildings dotted throughout our towns and villages needs a much more comprehensive response. The schemes currently available are insufficient and must be opened up to allow the further development of affordable and, indeed, private homes. I welcome the initiative by the Minister of State, Deputy Peter Burke, in bringing all the Departments together. I also...

Joe Carey: 209. To ask the Minister for Finance the plans he has to tackle the extraordinary issues being encountered by county hunts in securing insurance to host point-to-point meetings (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [55476/21]

Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I welcome the opportunity to speak on the Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021. It includes provisions related to automated vehicles for the first time in roads legislation. These vehicles are already being designed, built and tested in a new research hub in Shannon's industrial complex, with links to drone technology using the airport in Shannon. I have had the pleasure of visiting the...

Climate Action Plan 2021: Statements (23 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: The four elements believed essential to life are earth, air, fire and water. It seems that human actions and inaction have damaged all these elements, especially over the past 150 years. We have seen the earth exploited through increased cultivation of our land, destruction of our forests and the increased use of landfill to dump our rubbish. We have seen a marked decline in our air...

Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Casualties) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage (24 Nov 2021)

Joe Carey: I am a member of the Joint Committee on Transport and Communications. The Minister of State, Deputy Naughton, will be aware of the extensive pre-legislative scrutiny that took place on the general scheme of this Bill dating back to January last. The reason we as a State are introducing this legislation is that Ireland has had an illegally constituted Marine Casualty Investigation Board for...

Joe Carey: 174. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if he will extend the annual returns filing deadline to the Companies Registration Authority until at least 31 December 2021; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [56962/21]

[57399/21]
