Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage (18 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: While the previous Fine Gael-Labour Government may not have handled it well, it inherited an awful situation. I was often critical of what the former Minister, Jimmy Deenihan did, with gardaĆ going onto bogs and everything that happened during the past four or five years. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals (25 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: I welcome the officials from the agencies and Departments and thank them for their worthwhile presentations. Questions are being asked about the new flexibility that is being bestowed on us. Some of us argued for these factors to be taken into consideration during the legislative procedures that led to the Act. There was a great deal of discussion on them when the previous committee was...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Media Pluralism (26 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: Has the Minister read the report launched this week on media ownership in the State? Does the Minister share our concerns and those of journalists and the wider public about the issues raised in this and...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Media Pluralism (26 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: I thank the Minister for his reply. I received my copy of the report yesterday morning. It was launched on Monday. It raises serious concerns about media concentration and notes that Ireland has one of the most concentrated media markets in any democracy. It points out that media plurality is an essential component of a well functioning democratic society. As the Minister knows, the...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Media Pluralism (26 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: The report has been available for the past couple of weeks. I had hoped the Minister had a copy, but I recognise he has not had access to it. We will correct this. With regard to retrospective legislation and the Constitution, Article 43 is the article to which the Minister alludes. It states exercising the right to private ownership ought to be regulated by the principles of social...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Postal Services (26 Oct 2016)

Brian Stanley: There seems to be confusion over which Minister is dealing with the issue. That is what he told the Ceann Comhairle's office.
