- Patient Safety (Notifiable Patient Safety Incidents) Bill 2019: Report Stage (7 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: If we seek clarification, it will be 9.20 p.m.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: 146. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his proposals to increase the adoption of rooftop solar energy generation on farms. [61185/22]
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: We all know that with climate change and the energy crisis, we have to deliver rooftop solar energy. It is the low-hanging fruit. We have many buildings on farms and farmers are looking for opportunities. It is just a matter of meeting them halfway. I assume I will be delighted with the Minister’s answer.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: We all welcome the fact that the work that needs to be done is absolutely necessary. I would imagine that the Minister has been at more IFA meetings than I have, but at several of them I have seen a large number of people who are ready for change. Some of the complaints, particularly those over recent years, relate to the fact that people did not believe the solar panel grant scheme was...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: In fairness, we would all like to see a drive regarding the uptake. I welcome the separate allocation for batteries and solar panels, because we want people to opt for every means of electricity generation given the circumstances we find ourselves in. Could the Minister indicate the sorts of numbers we are looking at? Uptake is vital because we really need to ensure we are operating at...
- EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement: Motion (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I accept that the Government was not responsible for the timeline. We obviously support this absolutely necessary proposal on PNR data. Once more we are dealing with the outworkings of the TCA between Britain and the European Union and the outworkings of what has been a disastrous Brexit. I am hardly the first person to say that on the floor of this Chamber. Exercising our...
- Water Environment (Abstractions and Associated Impoundments) Bill 2022: Second Stage (8 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I appreciate that. I was unaware of the Venice of Ireland. Every day is a school day. My party position has already been laid out fairly clearly. People will probably say I should just sit down and say nothing, making everyone a lot happier, but unfortunately I have an inability to do so. Deputy Ó Broin, who I suppose has made an assertion of sorts, referred to the logic for...
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Drug Dealing (6 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: 13. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if she will provide an update on the Drugs Related Intimidation Reporting Programme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [60618/22]
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: An Garda Síochána (6 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: 29. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if she will outline the range of powers that gardaí have when investigating online hate speech, incitement to hate, online threats and intimidation; if she will outline any plans to enhance those powers for gardaí; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [60617/22]
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Haulage Industry (6 Dec 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: 150. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if consideration will be given to the introduction of the licensed haulage emergency support scheme for the months of November to April as a specific support to the sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [60553/22]
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I thank Transport Infrastructure Ireland, TII, for coming before the committee. I want to go back to the point about toll prices on the M50 as a means of demand reduction. What are we talking about here? They are doing that on the basis that the M50 obviously cannot deal with the traffic that the M50 should be able to deal with. I understand that. Is there a solution to this and has one...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: The TII is talking about the M50-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: Exactly. Mr. Masterson knows what I mean.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: Is there a difficulty in even getting the information to be able to make determinations? I will not repeat everything that has been said before, which is usually what I say before I repeat everything that has been said before. Although I have been here for most of this meeting, there is every chance that representatives from the TII will end up repeating themselves here. The Chair has...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: This issue has therefore been highlighted since June. Is that the case?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: That is a whole pile of over and back interaction. First, it highlighted it and then gave the information. Is it the case that at no point did anyone have a discussion about there being a problem here and that this is not right? Therein lies the problem. That was a mistake and, although I would say this, that mistake lies with the Government. It is a fair point and I think that the TII...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I accept that. Mr. Walsh has spoken about the cost he is dealing with. He has spoken also about the PPPs, although I am not sure that they are quite offering the great deal that Mr. Walsh indicated them to be earlier. However, at some level, he has what he has in front of him and a huge amount of deviation is not allowed on that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: We cannot exactly go back in time to re-tender or to re-negotiate, or whatever the correct term is. That is what it is. I will deviate, rather than repeating the same material. The issue brought to my attention relates to the use of hard shoulders. A hard shoulder is used on the way into Belfast, particularly for buses. We talk about getting more people to use public transport and so...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I am saying this hard shoulder issue is happening and asking if TII is looking at it. What are the possibilities? Could we look at this from the point of view of the M1 into Dublin? We are probably talking about a limited amount of hard shoulder but it could make a major difference.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Motorway Toll Charges: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (29 Nov 2022)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I appreciate that. Without going into a whole pile of detail, be that a conversation regarding barrier control or whatever, are there any plans to change any of the operations in any of the toll plazas at this point in time?
