Martin Ferris: This situation is continuing and I have no other forum in which to raise this matter.
- Order of Business (1 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I have tried it under Topical Issue matters, which is hit and miss. It is a joke. There are people who are on their knees. They are being crippled.

- Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Private Rented Accommodation Prices (1 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: 15. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that private rental prices have increased year on year since he was appointed; his plans to address this problem exacerbated by subsidy of private rental market and current rental properties being repossessed and put up for sale. [20488/13]

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Coillte Harvesting Rights: Discussion with Irish Timber Council (2 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I thank our guests for their presentation. I wish to place on record the fact that my party completely supports their position. For many years we have taken a consistent approach in respect of the exploitation of Coillte harvesting rights for the benefit of the Irish people and those in the industry. The debate relating to this matter has been ongoing since it was first proposed that we...
- Fodder Crisis: Motion [Private Members] (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I welcome the motion and concur with its main proposals. I also propose that other measures be put in place, both to address the current crisis and to address any possible recurrence. That can not be ruled out given the weather conditions we have experienced over the past two years and the possibility of further bad weather later this year. No one expects the Department, any more than...
- Fodder Crisis: Motion [Private Members] (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I welcome the fact the Minister has tried it. There are a number of precedents for the use of the EU solidarity fund aid, which has been used on 20 occasions to aid farmers. These included two occasions in 2002 when farmers in Austria were assisted in the midst of a food crisis similar to that being experienced by Irish farmers currently. I echo the call to extend the transport subsidy...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on CAP and CFP: Discussion with Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I thank the Minister for his presentation. I have had reservations about CAP since it has been implemented. I was hoping to have a more equitable and fairer distribution of payments in particular, to ensure that the weaker and the smaller farmer survives. The Minister is aware of my position regarding the cap on funding. I have held the position since the day I came to the House that it...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on CAP and CFP: Discussion with Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: Okay. My position has always been that it is essential that small family farms survive. They need whatever supports are possible to get them through difficulties in order that they can survive. It is essential, not just in monetary terms but for the social fabric of rural Ireland.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on CAP and CFP: Discussion with Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: May I contribute?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on CAP and CFP: Discussion with Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: The Minister mentioned regionalisation and co-operation between countries fishing in certain waters. Does that include a quota or has quota been mentioned? Deputy Thomas Pringle and Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív will be aware that the quota for the Irish fleet badly needs to be addressed. There does not appear to be anything in the negotiations on that issue.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Sale of Coillte's Harvesting Rights: Discussion with Society of Irish Foresters (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: I thank Mr. Magner for his excellent presentation which was well laid out and very factual. I commend him on putting in print, and explaining it very well here, the fallacy of selling the harvesting rights. The sale is absolutely and utterly ridiculous and I detect that the Government is having second thoughts about doing so. We will have to wait and see. At the end of last year we...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Sale of Coillte's Harvesting Rights: Discussion with Society of Irish Foresters (7 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: My question relates to a presentation in which it was stated that there would be little or no interest in some Coillte lands which were seen as not very viable.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Coillte Harvesting Rights (8 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: 2. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he agrees that a sale of Coillte harvesting rights is now unlikely to proceed. [21654/13]
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Coillte Harvesting Rights (8 May 2013)
Martin Ferris: The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Deputy Pat Rabbitte, stated last week that he believed any sale of Coillte harvesting rights is now unlikely. Will the Minister confirm whether this has been discussed at Cabinet level and if that is the view of the Cabinet? Alternatively, is the Minister stating that the Government may yet decide to sell off Coillte harvesting...
