Seanad: Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill 2016: Committee Stage (14 Feb 2018)

Victor Boyhan: I endorse what Senator Warfield has said. Clearly, the Mahon tribunal report made many recommendations, and we see some of those recommendations echoed with regard to the legislation. This is a really important opportunity for us to give effect to those recommendations in primary legislation. I am supportive of this amendment.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Review of Relationships and Sexuality Education: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Jun 2018)

Dr. Aoife Neary: I echo the point on outsourcing and the whole school approach. The Pound et alstudy that reviewed best practice internationally in ten countries over a 25-year period cautioned against over-reliance on external organisations. The tendency was for it, potentially, to result in one-off sessions which are problematic.

Seanad: Judicial Appointments Commission Bill 2017: Committee Stage (3 Jul 2018)

David Norris: I, too, welcome the Minister to the House. Has he any knowledge as to when the GRECO report will be published by the Government? He is shaking his head to indicate he does not. I echo what Senator Bacik has said, namely, that it seems extraordinary when such an important report-----

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (18 Sep 2018)

Leo Varadkar: ...of a healthy democracy and welcome. However, they should be peaceful and occur in accordance with the law. I hope the Deputy will use the opportunity presented by his supplementary question to echo that sentiment-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Planning and Development Act 2000 (Exempted Development) (No. 3) Regulations 2021 and Planning and Development (Street Furniture Fees) Regulations 2021: Discussion (27 Apr 2021)

Steven Matthews: I thank Deputy Ó Broin and echo his comments that that is the spirit in which all of us on this committee work, which is in a collegiate and collaborative manner to try to forward, as best we can, housing policy. I invite the Minister now to make his opening statement.

Seanad: Address to Seanad Éireann by the Rt. Hon. Lord John McFall, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords (5 Oct 2022)

Emer Currie: ...at EU meetings, those informal meetings about which Lord McFall was so articulate. We must find a way to replicate and replace those meetings. I cannot let the opportunity pass without echoing the words of my colleagues in respect of the two Bills coming before the House of Lords. We see a chink of light with the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill but we do not see the same chink of light...

Seanad: Council of Europe Development Bank Bill 2004: Committee and Remaining Stages. (25 Nov 2004)

John Paul Phelan: I echo Senator Mansergh's sentiments and thank the Minister of State and his officials who attended the debate. The legislation is uncontentious and welcome. I hope the board member appointed by Ireland will be suitably qualified. Our membership of the Council of Europe Development Bank will be a positive move.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Proposed Changes to Pay and File Tax Date: Discussion with Irish Tax Institute (20 Nov 2013)

Mr. Mark Redmond: It echoes what Mr. Irwin has said, namely, that if the date is accelerated, businesses will have to borrow to pay the accelerated liability. That is the basis on which the Small Firms Association has estimated the aggregate cost to small business of the implications of bringing forward the payment date.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Future Funding of Public Service Broadcasting: Discussion (10 Dec 2019)

Mr. Rory Coveney: I echo what Ms Forbes said. The question of morale comes up all the time. As for morale in the media generally and across Ireland, people in local radio stations and newspapers are going through rounds and rounds of cuts. RTÉ is in a similar place. This is a distressed sector.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Overview of the Credit Union Sector: Discussion (23 Mar 2017)

Michael McGrath: ...best placed to give an assessment based on current trends. Let us be specific. She is saying an increasing number of credit unions could face serious viability issues in three years. Again, to echo the Chairman's sentiment, how many? What are we looking at, again based on present trends?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy in Education: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Nov 2022) See 1 other result from this debate

Joe Flaherty: It is good to have the Aire here. To echo my constituency colleague, I commend the Minister on the work he has done in this area. I look forward to hearing the exchanges today. I will have a number of questions for him and I will come back to him with those.

Seanad: Garda Deployment. (28 Mar 2006)

Brendan Kenneally: I thank the Minister of State for the his reply. His comment that a number of posts that are filled at present by members of the force could be filled by civilians echoes my point. I hope the Minister will be in a position to sort that out as soon as possible.

Energy Security and Climate Change Bill 2012: Second Stage [Private Members] (8 Feb 2013)

Brendan Griffin: I commend Deputy Catherine Murphy on bringing this Bill before the House. In concurrence with Deputy Eoghan Murphy, I think the Friday sitting is useful in this regard. I echo his calls to extend the Friday sitting to perhaps cover two Bills. Maybe we could consider taking Bills on Tuesday mornings as well.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade: Review of Foreign Affairs Policy and External Relations: Discussion (15 Jan 2014)

Jim Walsh: My comments would be echoed my many people. What is Mr. Dorr's opinion on that? What should we do as a country or a Government to ensure in a future referendum there will be sufficient support for it to pass because I detect at the moment it would be impossible to do so?

Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis: Nexus Phase (29 Jul 2015)

Sean Barrett: Thank you, Chairman, and I echo with the Chairman's welcome to you here this evening. Just in your own address to us, that you sent in in the core documents you said the traditional conservative approach to lending in EBS unravelled in the period 2000 to 2007. Would you like to expand on that?

Ceisteanna - Questions: Cabinet Committee Meetings (15 Nov 2016)

Richard Boyd Barrett: If the Leas-Cheann Comhairle had not interrupted me, I would be finished by now. My point is that the extremities of inequality that have grown in the United States in recent years are mirrored and echoed here under the Government's watch and need to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland (Amendment) Bill 2014 [Private Members]: Committee Stage (11 May 2017)

I am sure we will engage in the coming days to agree amendments on Report Stage. I thank the other members for engaging and supporting the passage of this legislation.

Seanad: Update on Rebuilding Ireland: Statements (18 Oct 2018)

Paudie Coffey: We all echo the sentiments expressed by Senator Lawlor. The Minister of State has been very generous with his time, given comprehensive replies and agreed to write to Senators who had further queries, which is appreciated in this House. That concludes today's debate on Rebuilding Ireland. When is it proposed to sit again?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Access to Justice and Legal Costs: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Dec 2019) See 1 other result from this debate

Ms Rose Wall: I will echo those comments. Compared to where we were in the 1970s, we have made some progress. For example, we have a civil legal aid scheme, Abhaile and the Citizens Information Board. We have more than we had, but the point we are making today is that we could do much better.

Seanad: Animal Health and Welfare and Forestry (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021: Second Stage (8 Feb 2022)

Lynn Boylan: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. I echo what previous speakers have said in welcoming the aspects of the Bill that relate to a ban on fur farming. It is a barbaric practice and it is about time we, as legislators, caught up with where the public has been for a long time.
