Joe Costello: Why is it not being drawn down?

Charities Bill 2007: From the Seanad (11 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: I support the voices that have urged the Minister of State to reconsider his decision on excluding human rights as a charitable purpose. We are in the unusual situation of seeking to reinstate provisions which were contained in the Bill as originally drafted. These provisions were not removed at the request of any Opposition Deputy but by the very Minister of State who has responsibility...

Charities Bill 2007: From the Seanad (11 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: I accept the Minister of State's point that the status quo will be respected in terms of charitable status. However, it is still beyond me why he is not prepared to accept a wording that provides specifically for the promotion and advancement of human and civil rights. Any of the areas that are covered do not cover the entire gamut of civil and human rights. There are organisations...

Financial Transactions (11 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: I refer to the PricewaterhouseCoopers report. Will the Minister place the report in the Oireachtas Library now that the Anglo Irish Bank has been nationalised and is, therefore, the property of the people? At least, the House should have the privilege of examining it. The Minister stated that following nationalisation he brought to the attention of the board the issue of the €7 billion....

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: I ask the Tánaiste about the commitment the Minister for Finance made in the House to me yesterday, that he would endeavour to have the PricewaterhouseCoopers report placed in the Library as quickly as possible? Can we be assured that the report will be in the Library before the legislation on the recapitalisation is brought forward?

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: The Minister promised.

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: No.

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: Could I clarify it for the Tánaiste? I asked that the PricewaterhouseCoopers report, which was a report into six banks including Anglo Irish Bank, would be laid in the Library for us to peruse. It was the intention that it would cover all of the banks and the Minister seemed to indicate that he was prepared to do that.

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: He indicated that he was prepared to do that but that he would take whatever confidential item——

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: Could I get clarification on that? We will have a debate on the legislation to recapitalise the banks. That is coming up. Can we get a commitment from the Minister that the report will be in the Library before that debate takes place?

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: We are not looking for the full report. I asked for the expurgated report, where the sensitive information would be deleted. Nobody wanted the sensitive information.

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)

Joe Costello: Can we get a commitment now?

Order of Business (12 Feb 2009)
