Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The Government has done nothing since.
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Tósóidh mé leis na dreamanna nach bhfuil ró-shásta, b'fhéidir. I find it amusing to hear the talk about child care announced in the budget. My understanding of the early childhood care and education scheme is that it is three hours per day. It is preschool, not child care. As a father of five, I know there is a major difference between child care and preschool.
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Preschool is an education support as well. The attempt to sell a couple of extra hours per day as child care is incorrect.

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Another group of people who are very disappointed today, I imagine, are lone parents who have suffered savage cuts under this Government, in particular the cuts introduced by the Minister for Social Protection, Deputy Burton, last year. She reduced the age of eligibility to seven years. It is a shame that something was not done in that area. Since we are discussing child care, it is a...
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Let us consider the analysis done by the Department of Finance on the way this will impact on people. We can see that people earning over €50,000, €60,000 or €70,000 benefit. The top 14% of earners are going to get three times more money back into their pockets than people on the lower levels. How is that progressive or fair? People on low incomes are finding it...
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: We have shown that this Government has a great battle on its hands, especially on the water issue. There is nothing in the budget to assuage any of the people who have not paid their water charges and who have no intention of paying their water charges. There is nothing in the budget to show me that this Government has a real strategy to end the crisis in our health system, for example, the...
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: There is nothing in it either to show me that there is a clear strategy around ending the crisis in housing. If anything, the strategy is putting more and more resources into the hands of private developers and allowing the market to rule itself. We have seen what a disaster that can be. When we were doing analysis of the figures on Raidió na Gaeltachta earlier we noticed that there...
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: That is not the case according to the figures we have seen. This was not denied by the Minister of State at the table with us at the time.
- Seanad: Budget 2016: Statements (13 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The Minister of State should tell us what is in this for small and medium-sized enterprises. There is little here for rural areas. For farmers, this is simply an extension of what is in place already. The Government is hammering the Gaeltacht and Irish language organisations. Basically, the Government has carried on the Tory economics. The Labour Party is on board with that agenda. The...
- Seanad: Minerals Development Bill 2015: Report and Final Stages (14 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I move amendment No. 2:In page 30, between lines 4 and 5, to insert the following:"(3) The Minister shall review all prospecting licences and retention licences every five years.". We have discussed this amendment on previous Stages. Its purpose is to allow the Minister to review existing or historical licences on a five-year basis. Where there is a case where a licence holder is impeding...
- Seanad: Minerals Development Bill 2015: Report and Final Stages (14 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I welcome the clarification on the other issue raised by the Minister of State, namely, the legacy licences that are not being used, or which could be used to block others from doing anything. I accept what the Minister of State is saying in regard to the prospecting licence and the difference between that and the actual mining licence. However, it should be left open to the Minister to...
- Seanad: Minerals Development Bill 2015: Report and Final Stages (14 Oct 2015)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I would like to thank the secretariat for the work it has done on this, given there has been quite a lot of work over and back between different agencies and Departments. The conclusion and the recommendation we are making is, once again, to recommend to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government that it would carry out the following: to introduce legislation...
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Táimid ag smaoineamh ach go háirithe inniu ar an dream den Lucht Siúil atá á gcur inniu tar éis gur cailleadh iad sa tine uafásach sin i gCarraig Mhaigin an tseachtain seo caite. Ba mhaith liom comhbhrón a dhéanamh lena muintir agus lena dteaghlach ar fad. Tá sé thar a bheith brónach mar lá dóibh siúd. I was happy...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Sign of a future coalition.
- Seanad: Marriage Bill 2015: Second Stage (20 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ach oiread leis na daoine a labhair romham, cuirim an-fháilte go deo roimh an mBille seo agus roimh an Aire agus gabhaim mo chomhghairdeas le gach duine san Áiléar Poiblí. Parties can claim some small credit for this Bill coming through but this was the citizens' victory and congratulations to all who were involved in it. Sinn Féin welcomes this Bill to the House...
- Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: An Fochoiste um an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge 2010-2030 agus Rudaí Gaolmhara: Tuarascáil Nuashonrú ar Úsáid na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht ó 2006 go 2011: Díospóireacht (20 Oct 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom i dtosach báire míle fáilte a chur roimh na finnéithe agus fáilte a chur roimh an éisteacht áirithe seo. Is é an feall ná gur thóg sé chomh fada an éisteacht seo a fháil. Tá amhras orm gur léiriú é ar an easpa tiomantais maidir le cúrsaí Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta sna Tithe seo...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ní dóigh liom go bhfuair, mar fuair mise ríomhphost uaidh a léiríonn nach raibh teangmháil ag aon duine leis faoin gcruinniú.

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Tá sé féin ag rá nach bhfuair, just mar eolas don chruinniú.
