- Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Social Dimension of Economic and Monetary Union: Discussion with European Commission (20 Nov 2013)
Bernard Durkan: I thank Mr. Richelle for attending and giving us the benefit of his time and experience. To what extent has he identified the most commonly recognised factors that create inequality throughout the European Union? To what extent does the Commission recognise these factors? It is refreshing to get up-to-date information from people on the ground who have an understanding of the situation and are able to convey that to the rest of us. What I cannot understand in regard to this particular disaster is that with modern technology now so adequately sophisticated, it is possible to...

I know the point that has been made about the Mexicans. Several years...

- Other Questions: Departmental Budgets (21 Nov 2013)
Bernard Durkan: I am not asking for a pecking order or a rating, but some Departments have responded extremely well to meeting their budgetary targets, and at the same time delivering a high quality and high standard of service to the public. The question relates to the extent to which each Department has contributed to the delivery of those services.
