Denis O'Donovan: I ask the Leader to arrange an urgent debate on the soaring hospital waiting lists which are truly appalling. Last Friday the National Treatment Purchase Fund published figures dating from September 2012 to September 2013 which showed that waiting lists have increased by 8,000 persons. The facts are as follows. There were 49,496 persons on the inpatient and day case list in September 2013...

Denis O'Donovan: We are moving outside the general issue of section 3. I will allow Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh speak. The point raised by Senator Paul Bradford appears to be a broad global issue. It is unfair that we should have a full debate on that issue on section 3. I ask the Senator to be cognisant of that.

Denis O'Donovan: I am not going to prevent the Senator from speaking but I do not want a broad general debate. We are on section 3 which is fairly confined.
