Terry Leyden: Are we collectively responsible for this particular bank?

Seanad: Order of Business (11 Jun 2009)

Terry Leyden: The Government would be well advised to consider this bank for insolvency and receivership. It is sucking a further €4 billion out of the economy. It is gardaí, teachers, nurses, doctors, prison officers, public and civil servants, as well as ourselves, who are paying for this. As I said, 83 young and active people have lost their jobs because of Mr. Seán FitzPatrick.

Terry Leyden: I share in the congratulations to our former colleague Alan Kelly on winning a seat in the European Parliament. I thank him for visiting us today to say goodbye to the House. Seanad: Order of Business (17 Jun 2009)

Terry Leyden: I support the proposal by Senator O'Toole on the review of the rural transport scheme. This innovative scheme was introduced as a pilot scheme by the former Minister, Deputy Mary O'Rourke, and it has been rolled out to quite a number of areas with considerable success. I see it operating at first hand in my own area. It would be a worthwhile exercise to have a full review of this issue in...

Next Tuesday the President will address that assembly and the Seanad should be represented by those who have been nominated to attend. Terry Leyden: The State cannot afford to take over ownership of those schools.

Terry Leyden: Of course Senator O'Toole and the union would like to have managers paid €40,000 or €50,000 a year to manage the schools.

Seanad: Order of Business (18 Jun 2009)

Terry Leyden: We cannot afford it, and the Senator is trying to feather his own nest in that particular regard as far as his former members are concerned. I want to make clear that I am not speaking about the Senator personally but his friends might be involved in that.
