- Seanad: Transport and Sport: Statements (20 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: I welcome the Minister to the House and it is a privilege to address him today on the matters of sports grants and transport. I will first address the sports grant system. I agree totally with my colleague, Senator Boyhan, and I know the Minister's opposition to people making political gain, political appointments or anything like that. It may be at odds with my position on the judicial...

Gerard Craughwell: Do I not have the floor?
- Seanad: Transport and Sport: Statements (20 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: People apply for grants and the Minister's officials assess those grants in an open and transparent way and the decisions are made accordingly. Let us stop the nonsense of "I got a grant a grant for you" or "We worked to get you a grant". The Minister is the only one who should be seen when grants are handed out.

Gerard Craughwell: It should be the Minister or his successors. Over the past few days I have taken to the bicycle following a challenge in Dublin city and I invite the Minister to do the same. We learn some serious lessons as we cycle around Dublin.
- Seanad: Transport and Sport: Statements (20 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: From I BIKE Dublin I thank Mr. Ciarán Ferrie and Mr. Oisín O'Connor for their assistance in accompanying me around the city. It is incredible that we have cycle lanes that go a couple of hundred yards and then disappear. There are cycle lanes along the quays, for example, that we share with bus lanes while cars fly past in the right-hand lane. People have discussed transport in...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: On Tuesday, an amendment to the Order of Business was made to bring the Minister of State with responsibility for Defence to the Chamber to address the emergency air ambulance service issue. He came and when I asked five questions, he answered none. This is contrast to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Ross, who was here yesterday. He was unable to answer questions...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: I called for a debate but the Minister of State did not engage by providing answers. This is an important public health matter. It is vital.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: He was present but did not answer the questions and has made no effort whatever to come back and address the five questions I put to him. It is not good enough.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: There is no point in calling for a debate with a Minister of State who refuses to answer questions.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: It is in black and white.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: Okay. The letter I am adverting to is topical because it is published in The Irish Timestoday. We did not have this information.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: This is fresh information from a captain who retired from the Air Corps who flew the emergency air ambulance helicopter for 12 months.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: Absolutely. This captain says that asking the Irish Coast Guard to double up is merely a sticking plaster solution and that the sticking plaster solutions of the Minister of State, Deputy Kehoe, are being applied to a life-and-death scenario. What is most concerning about the letter is that it is written by this captain, a former emergency air ambulance helicopter pilot, who retired after...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)
Gerard Craughwell: With all due respect, on a point of order, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport was here yesterday. I was here and contributed to that debate. We ran out of time.
