Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (3 May 2016)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I want to ask about the vacant site levy and, going back to the rented accommodation, I want to ask about standards. While I am not tarring all landlords with the same brush, there certainly are landlords who are looking for increases in rent when it is reductions they should be getting because of the poor standard of accommodation.

Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (3 May 2016)

Maureen O'Sullivan: Some councils are doing that, which is good, but unfortunately some landlords are using the process as an excuse to get rid of tenants. They can then do a certain amount of work, increase the rent and find different tenants. The original tenants are then placed on the homelessness list.

Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Minister for Finance (5 May 2016)

Maureen O'Sullivan: On the vacant site levy, I am aware that for legal reasons the Minister was precluded from commencing this measure before 2018. I wonder has Mr. Farrell thought of that provision. My second question relates to the credit unions' relationship with dormant accounts. I understand the credit unions are excluded from the Dormant Accounts Fund. Given that there could be seed capital...

Committee on Housing and Homelessness: National Asset Management Agency (12 May 2016)

Maureen O'Sullivan: There are various questions about the units that local authorities turned down. I have one specific question. Has every unit that was turned down been disposed of at this stage? My second question relates to the docklands. I understand NAMA has control of 75% of the undeveloped land in the docklands area. The bulk of the development is going to be for commercial purposes and office...

Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Dublin Homeless Network, Limerick and Clare Homeless Alliance, Cork Social Housing Forum (12 May 2016)

Maureen O'Sullivan: My first question is to Ms Barry and relates to Brú Aimsir. What can be done to ensure the closure of this facility is not repeated elsewhere? I am aware of other hostels that are due to close. Such closures cause additional stress and anxiety to those who use hostels. How can this be prevented? These facilities are described as cold weather accommodation. The weather here is such...
