Michael McCarthy: I welcome the fact that the adjustment in the budget was €600 million less than the proposed €3.1 billion. Deputies in this House argued for a cut of €3.1 billion but it was a key achievement for us on this side of the House to maintain the adjustment at €2.5 billion. There is no doubt the situation remains difficult.
