Seanad: Order of Business. (21 Apr 2010)

Donie Cassidy: Under Fianna Fail 800,000 jobs were created in the past 11 or 12 years. That is an incredible achievement that is standing to the economy at the present time. As Senator Walsh said on the Order of Business yesterday, an extra 800,000 people are paying taxes and making a return to the Exchequer, which colleagues on both sides of the House did not have in the 1970s or 1980s when in government.

Seanad: Order of Business. (21 Apr 2010)

Donie Cassidy: I join with Senator Bacik in welcoming the opening of air services. As everyone is aware, I have a vested interest which I want to acknowledge but this was a serious position in which everyone in the country found themselves. Thank God the skies have opened again because serious issues regarding employment were about to emerge in the next 24 to 48 hours. What happened goes to show how much...

The debate on banking will follow the debate on women in politics next Tuesday. Senator Twomey called for a debate on the decoupling of agribusiness plcs from co-ops....

Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Apr 2010)

Donie Cassidy: Unlike members of the Opposition, I was never inside it. Senators Leyden, Walsh and Ross raised the issue of public interest directors. The Government - in particular, the Minister for Finance, Deputy Brian Lenihan - faces a serious and unprecedented challenge. The Minister is doing everything he possibly can do to address it. I listened to him for the entire hour he spoke on "The Marian...

Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Apr 2010)

Donie Cassidy: I also refer to Senator Mooney in that regard. An Tóstal was the festival for those coming home to help Ireland and was a huge success. Seanad: Order of Business. (27 Apr 2010)

Donie Cassidy: -----and, as Senator O'Toole has noted, on what Members are legislating for. Senators Alex White and Boyle raised the issue of the new Dublin Bus routes and spoke of the good service Dublin Bus has delivered, which it is proposing to tweak and make even more efficient.
