- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: I ask the Leader to arrange for an early debate, possibly next week, on the draft report that is being presented to the Joint Committee on European Affairs this morning, which is currently being discussed. I refer to the report of the sub-committee chaired by our esteemed colleague, Senator Donohoe, on Ireland's future in the European Union. It is important that the House has an opportunity...

Terry Leyden: ââI will not accept a situation where Roscommon County Hospital does not have ambulance cover on a 24/7 basis.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: That is unacceptable. I want the Minister to come to the House to account for her stewardship of management of the health service.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: I am not satisfied with the HSE. The responsibility must rest on the Minister's desk.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: I want her to come to the House to account for the management of the HSE and in particular the despicable and dangerous situation in Roscommon where we do not have a guaranteed ambulance service 24 hours a day. That is unacceptable. It is the job of the Government side of the House to highlight those issues because the other side of the House is sometimes reluctant to raise issues.
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: I accept the Cathaoirleach's ruling about the Adjournment debate but having tabled an Adjournment matter, it certainly concentrated the minds of those in the Health Service Executive on the issues I was going to raise tonight.
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: That is why I fully accept the Cathaoirleach's ruling.
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: I am saying it concentrated the minds of those in the HSE and the matter has now been resolved and we will have 24-7 cover for the ambulance services of Roscommon County Hospital. That is thanks to having this forum, which the councillors do not have, to raise issues about the HSE and the health services.
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: I thank the Leader and I thank the Cathaoirleach for allowing me to raise this matter ten days ago. It is so important to have that type of service. I ask the Leader of the House to allow a debate on health issues. For example, it would have taken one hour for an ambulance to come to a young lady, a mother of three children, who was haemorrhaging. Fortunately, a neighbour collected her and...
- Seanad: Order of Business (2 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: If this had not happened the woman in question would have died. The woman, Mrs. H, has asked me to raise this matter in the House. She is quite prepared to go public and explain what occurred in her situation. I appeal to FBD Insurance to reconsider its decision to close 13 of its offices and lay off 153 staff who now face a dim future. FBD is a wonderful insurance company. I must declare...

Terry Leyden: Senator Buttimer is inciting us.
- Seanad: Charities Bill 2007: Committee Stage (4 Dec 2008)
Terry Leyden: I thank the Minister of State, Deputy John Curran. I debated this issue on Second Stage and put forward a good argument with regard to the exclusion rather than the inclusion of any qualified person whether a barrister, a garda, a councillor or a teacher. By right, they should be considered. The Minister of State and I met at the parliamentary party meeting and I communicated the...
