Martin Ferris: The problem is that the afforestation part is being sold off. If the lands are sold on afterwards by the Government, without a geological survey having been carried out, this could benefit a private buyer rather than the people. This is a concern.

Martin Ferris: The McCarthy report identified that 500,000 acres of this was unviable for forestry. That leaves 720,000 acres viable. No one is going to buy unviable land. Depending on what the company sells off, it could be left with 500,000 unviable acres, making it unviable itself. Has Coillte factored that into its deliberations?
