Terry Leyden: Finally, I agree with Senator O'Toole that the end suppliers are sometimes blamed for the cost of oil and diesel but, in fact, it is the refineries and the major distributors that charge the most. Ultimately, the small retailers are saddled with the high costs. It is important that suppliers of oil and diesel reflect the drop in the cost of a barrel of crude oil.

- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: The Senator should let people sort out their own agendas. This is something the Department should examine. It should carry out a survey to see what support can be given to the owners of these mills to provide the necessary turbines to produce energy for the locality. That would be a positive step forward in a difficult time in which we need to maximise energy production. Millions of...

Terry Leyden: In that regard, the recent murder is a watershed as far as the country, including Limerick, is concerned. I do not know the Minister's views on charging criminals. The Special Criminal Court has been used in cases such as that in Limerick because one cannot get people to give evidence as they are terrified that their doing so will compromise their safety and well-being. The Special Criminal...

Terry Leyden: ââand demonstrate the green agenda to young people, that hot water can be provided through solar panels without any cost. I received numerous representations during my survey from schools on staff numbers and prefabs and in a situation where there are difficulties in schools this may not be the most appropriate survey. However, it is a question of matching skills, availability and the...

- Seanad: Charities Bill 2007: Second Stage (26 Nov 2008)
Terry Leyden: I know the Leas-Chathaoirleach would like me to go further in this regard. I intend to speak on the matter on Committee Stage. My personal experience of the Minister of State, Deputy Curran, is that he will not exclude the possibility of allowing councillors to be on the authority. That does not mean they have to be selected as members of the authority or that there has to be a quota of...
