Malcolm Byrne: I would love it if that sentence was used more often in these Houses. I am going to wrap up with a final question. It relates to something Mr. Moynihan said at the start. After our session on AI and disability, we are going to move on to AI and the State. Part of my view around any new technology, not just artificial intelligence, is if it can deliver services more efficiently and...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence and Older People: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)
Malcolm Byrne: How can we do that responsibly? I agree with Mr. Mellon. One of my frustrations is that bodies have my PPS number, the same as every citizen, and we should just be able to press a button and see what we are entitled to. I totally get it about the means test. How can we do that? How can the State deliver those services more efficiently but make sure that we safeguard data?

Malcolm Byrne: I will now turn to the members. There is a revised speaking order because there was an error in the one circulated. Apologies have been received from Senator Dee Ryan. All members have seven minutes for questions and answers. I ask them to direct their questions to a particular individual or organisation and if somebody wants to indicate that they have a point to make I ask them to raise...

There are a few other matters going on in Leinster House today, as you may be aware, but this is a particularly important session in the work we are doing. Our committee will move to the impact, opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in a range of areas, including from next week AI and the State, in terms of how the State uses AI. Malcolm Byrne: It now falls to me to put some questions. I thank all of the witnesses for their testimony and their work generally. Ms Apaza Machaca spoke about how she uses Meta AI glasses. We want to understand, as new technology is rolled out, how it can assist people with disabilities. Tied to that, our recommendations are on policy measures. I was conscious when we had the session on AI and older...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence and Disability: Discussion (7 Oct 2025)
Malcolm Byrne: I thank all our witnesses very sincerely for their input here today. It is important that in our committee, as Members of the Oireachtas, we have heard their views. It is critical that the voice of those with disabilities be heard in the establishment of the AI office and the regulation of that space, as well as in design of all the exciting technologies including the ones Ms Apaza Machaca...
