Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Cycling Facilities Funding (9 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: 468. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason he did not adhere to the independent assessment team's recommendations for the funding of greenways; the objective criteria he used in choosing the projects which received funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [46741/14]

Topical Issue Debate: Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme (10 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I thank the Minister for being present in the Chamber. Deputy Peter Mathews has submitted this Topical Issue matter every day since 22 October and I want to acknowledge this. It is unfortunate he will not have a chance to speak on it today. Aer Lingus was a State company when these contracts were entered into and when current and deferred pensioners paid into the defined benefit pension...

Topical Issue Debate: Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme (10 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: -----from a lady who stated that for 38 years she paid into a defined benefit pension scheme which guaranteed a pension. It was all part of the contract, but now she can look forward to a diminished pension and will struggle to pay her bills. It is not acceptable and the Minister needs to intervene.

Topical Issue Debate: Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme (10 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: Are any of the trustees beneficiaries of the deferred scheme? I do not have the answer, but it certainly arises as a potential conflict of interest. Aer Lingus is now returning a fairly substantial profit and is doing quite well commercially. However, it seems very unwilling to deal with the problem. The Government has not pursued that issue. I am conscious that this is recently on the...

Lucinda Creighton: 9. To ask the Minister for Social Protection if her Department has conducted a cost analysis of the additional 20 gardaí seconded to her Department to tackle social welfare fraud; the projected benefit to the Exchequer of the additional resources; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I wish to raise a few points, specifically on section 3 which deals with the charges proposed. I agree with much of what Deputy Liam Twomey has said. I agree that there needs to be investment in water. I also agree that there needs to be an efficient utility in place to deliver the economies of scale that were promised before the last general election. However, there were two principles...

Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: We shall see about that. It is less than a fifth of what the Government claimed it needed to raise, which puts paid to the original argument that €500 million had to be raised on an annual basis for investment in and the running of Irish Water. The second argument in respect of conservation has also been put paid to because we will not have metered water until 2019 and we can only...

Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I am as perplexed as everybody else seems to be. Could the Minister tell the House whether the 1.3 million households equates to everyone who is entitled to register or is it an estimate? They are two different things. Is it an estimate or is it the figure that the Minister believes is the total number of those entitled to register? If his figure is that much lower than the CSO figure of...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Departmental Expenditure (11 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: 163. To ask the Minister for Health if he will provide in tabular form for each year since 2003, the total amount in euro paid by his Department to a company (details supplied); if he will further provide in tabular form for each year since 2003, the total amount in euro paid by the Health Service Executive to that company; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [47679/14]

Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Irish Water Appointments (11 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: 192. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 494 and 490 of 25 November 2014, the reason the Local Government Management Agency has not yet forwarded the minutes of the Irish Water consultative group meetings along with the list of attendees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [47620/14]

Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I am opposing this amendment which is clumsy and does not add anything to the section or to the Bill. Section 7(5)(a) states that one of the forum's functions is "to represent the interests of customers of Irish Water", and that is clear. Customers are the ones who use and pay for the service. I do not understanding the wording in amendment No. 29: "and representatives of the trade unions...

Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I am happy to inform Deputy Stanley that I know precisely what a trade union is. My issue is with the actual wording of the amendment. It is clumsy and does not read logically. That being said, I do not believe that it would be a positive or progressive step to create yet another talking shop for trade unions. That is part of the culture that existed under successive Bertie Ahern...

Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: I am utterly opposed to section 7. I consider it to be an entirely empty, vacuous, meaningless part of this flawed legislation. As many Deputies have stated already, what is proposed in the Irish Water public water forum is nothing more or less than a talking shop. Essentially, it has no power, and the various elements referred to in section 7(5), which are supposed to be the functions of...

[47870/14]

Written Answers — Department of An Taoiseach: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (16 Dec 2014)

Lucinda Creighton: 109. To ask the Taoiseach if he will provide in tabular form the number of Management Advisory Council meetings which were held for each of the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and to date in 2014; if he will provide in tabular form the number of Management Advisory Council meetings that were attended by him, the Minister of State, the political adviser, the Secretary General and the titles of all...
