Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: With all due respect, up to now every time we have visited a centre we have been told that RIA provides accommodation and food and is not responsible for providing other services. Since the system began the Department has known what it had to contract for.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Direct Provision: Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality (1 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: This is very relevant and it goes back to where the debate started, with the Ombudsman, the Ombudsman for Children and discussions of oversight. There has been much discussion about the working group and proposals. Everybody agrees there will be some form of change and a different system but currently we have a particular system and the transition will take a while. Both of the ombudsmen...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Basic Payment Scheme and GLAS: Discussion (14 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh na finnéithe agus gabhaim mo bhuíochas leo. Cuirim fáilte ach go háirithe roimh an eagraíocht nua, the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers' Association. I listened intently to all the presentations. There are many common threads in them and in what has been said here. The IFA said it was too late for a working group to do the job and...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Transport Eligibility (16 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. Tá mé an-bhuíoch dó faoi teacht isteach leis an gceist seo a phlé. Chuaigh muid chuig na daoine éagsúla a bhaineann leis an gceist seo, ach níor éirigh linn aon réiteach sásúil a fháil. We have tried to have this issue resolved through a number of channels, but we keep hitting a...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Transport Eligibility (16 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I thank the Minister of State for his response, but in this case the law is an ass. We are not making the child's needs paramount; rather, we are putting rules and regulations within a system of administration before him. I am very sorry that this is the response we have received. I ask the Minister of State to seek a specific review of the case, because if the child has to move to a...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Creative Economy: Discussion (21 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I have been here for four years without getting excited by too many committee meetings, but this is fantastic. It is a very important area. As someone who came home in the 1980s after doing a commerce degree to tell the family I was going to become an actor when most of my friends were working in the fish factory, I can understand exactly what the witnesses are expressing and the type of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Creative Economy: Discussion (21 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I knew what I was up to even at that stage. This turns on its head the idea that living in a rural area is a disadvantage. It is a distinct advantage to live in a rural area if one is involved in the creative industries. I found it intriguing that the Irish language was not mentioned until Deputy Conaghan referred to it. I might have missed something at the beginning, however. I see the...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I saw that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Creative Economy: Discussion (21 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: That is very interesting. I better express I have a bias. I am a former employee who worked on "Ros na Rún" as series producer for a number of years and as a director. I have an innate bias towards TG4.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Creative Economy: Discussion (21 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The work being done by Ms Allen is fascinating and I commend her on the publicity it is getting. I have passed through the airport a couple of times recently and have seen the picture montages there that give a sense of what is going on in Irish Design 2015. I would not be as au fait with design as others. We know a little about fashion designers, such as John Rocha, Louise Kennedy, Orla...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom tacú leis an éileamh atá á dhéanamh go ndéanfaí fiosrúchán neamhspleách maidir leis an díolachán a rinne IBRC ar Siteserv. I support the calls for a full independent inquiry into a number of IBRC transactions, including the 2012 sale of Siteserv. Serious questions have been raised on foot of information that has come...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Apr 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I certainly have an issue with it. It should be highlighted with the Minister.
