Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services: National Federation of Group Water Schemes (7 Feb 2017)

Thomas Pringle: I would like a bit more time to expand on some of these questions. Is it true to say that prior to the introduction of the rural water programme the management of group water schemes was quite haphazard and varied significantly from scheme to scheme? Some schemes had paid staff to actively manage the consumption of the scheme. Quite a lot of schemes had none. The figures in regard to...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services: National Federation of Group Water Schemes (7 Feb 2017)

Thomas Pringle: I am not disputing the work or doing anything to denigrate the work that people do in a voluntary capacity in group schemes but the point that I am making is that we are not really comparing like with like. The group water scheme sector has done a huge amount of work in improving the quality and standard of water on their supplies. With regard the information that we have asked for in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services: Scottish Water, Welsh Water and the Commission for Energy Regulation (8 Feb 2017)

Thomas Pringle: I thank the witnesses for their submissions and for being here today. I have a number of questions. Scottish Water is a public corporation. If a decision was made by the Scottish Assembly to privatise it and make it into a market corporation, what would it require? I presume it would simply require an Act of the Assembly. Is district or household metering the more valuable tool for...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services: Scottish Water, Welsh Water and the Commission for Energy Regulation (8 Feb 2017)

Thomas Pringle: In the real world I worked at detecting leakages as a day job. It is quite easy to identify individual properties in which water is being wasted, by step checking, making sounding checks and so on. The district meters are the most efficient tool to do this.

Clarification of Statements made by the Taoiseach and Ministers: Statements (Resumed) (14 Feb 2017)

Thomas Pringle: My question is for the Tánaiste. The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Deputy Zappone, has already answered two of the six questions posed by Sergeant McCabe in his questionnaire. If I heard the Tánaiste correctly, she said earlier that the reason she could not answer the four questions that apply directly to the Garda is that she could possibly risk prejudicing the...
