- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Barnardos and Society of St. Vincent de Paul: Pre-Budget Discussion (12 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Nearly everything has been covered. The Barnardos Lost campaign has been very effective. It should continue in that vein. It really focuses on the losses of children in poverty. It is really effective. I will touch on the issue of the austerity cuts. We are coming up to the budget, which is why the witnesses are here lobbying for us to put forward some of these ideas. We have to have...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: MetroLink Project: Discussion (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: I thank the witnesses for attending. I will be brief. I heard Mr. Kinsella making his points on "Morning Ireland" earlier. All the points have been made and there are many questions. Mr. Kinsella's main point relates to the project going underground. Does he have a figure for that or was it ever raised by the NTA as a concept? I agree with Deputy Catherine Murphy on doing that in the future.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: My first issue is consultation. Last week in the Dáil during Leaders' Questions I asked about the consultation period being much too short. I note that it has been pushed out to 28 September, but it should be extended until October, given the extent of issues to be discussed. Last Monday week when I looked at the plan for my area, it was apparent that one would have to have the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: I asked about 12,000 people and 140 million passengers.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Were people asked when they were on the bus or did it happen via an app?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: We need to get clarification on that but I think it can do so.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Who will make the decisions after 2019 in the context of the next five-year contract and what goes out for what I will call privatisation? There seems to be disagreement about what constitutes privatisation.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Under the direction of the Minister?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: I made a point on viewing the proposed network. The connectivity of the east coast is certainly very well catered for. As one moves out towards the west, however, one can see how working-class estates are particularly stripped of buses. In the outlying areas, one leaves the main routes and depends on 28-seat feeder buses. How does that constitute connectivity?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Are there areas such as Maynooth-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: Why have we have ordered 40 28-seat Mercedes buses?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: SIPTU and NRBU (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: This is probably the biggest public transport proposal we have seen in the city in decades. I am concerned that is has been presented as a fait accompli. Jarrett Walker has already said that anything more than a 15% change to this plan would render it unworkable. They are trying to contain the potential changes. That the plan tries to push so many people onto the seven spines rings alarm...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: SIPTU and NRBU (18 Jul 2018)
Joan Collins: I thank the delegates from SIPTU for hanging around for so long.

- Future of the Post Office Network: Motion (18 Sep 2018)
Joan Collins: While post office closures constitute an issue which will massively affect rural communities, they are also an issue in my own urban constituency in Rialto where I have worked with people to prevent the closures. We heard recently that Bluebell post office could be under threat with the retirement of a postmaster. I have been in contact with An Post, which is trying to get that out for...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (19 Sep 2018)
Joan Collins: There was a debate in the House last night on the closure of more than 159 post offices in rural communities. Throughout the country there have been large, angry meetings in response to the proposals as communities are opposed to the closures. Similarly, in Dublin city and the greater Dublin region there have been meetings in response to the proposed BusConnects project, which has been...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (19 Sep 2018)
Joan Collins: I will finish on this point. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Ross, or the Government, have the power to scrap the process. That is what should be done. If the Government does not stop the process then thousands of people will be on the streets protesting as they are very angry and members of the Government will get it in the neck.
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (19 Sep 2018)
Joan Collins: When the Minister drills down into "BusDisconnects" she will see that is not what is happening. Communities are being cannibalised by the loss of routes. One example I heard about involved a person standing at a bus stop in Wellington Lane for one hour. There were three 54As, four 15As and four 150s, which is a total of 11 buses. With BusConnects there would be a combination of F1s, F2s...
