Alex White: The Deputy will be aware that Drugs Task Force coordinators are, in the main, employed by the HSE and the position is therefore subject to the recruitment moratorium. Alex White: I propose to take Questions Nos. 689 and 692 together. Before a medicine can be placed on the Irish market the manufacturer has to seek an authorisation from the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) or in the case of certain medicinal products, the European Medicines agency (EMA). In the case of Ampligen, because of the biotechnology nature of the active substance involved, any application for...

- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Hospital Services (12 Feb 2013)
Alex White: I thank the Senator for raising this issue. In the notice for this Adjournment debate, the Senator used the phrase the "most appropriate hospital" for treatment of those serious conditions which he described and I also note his appreciation that transfer to such facilities is essential. One of the key functions of pre-hospital emergency care is stabilisation. On arrival at an incident,...
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Hospital Services (12 Feb 2013)
Alex White: I cannot state the matter any further than I have. I understand the Senator's concern and he has been to the fore on this question and makes his case well, as he has done in the past. Alex White: The company referred to by the Deputy is one of a number of companies engaged in the parallel importation of drugs and medicines into the State.
